Possibly another stupid question, how do you utilize rivers...

I mean REALLY... it escapes me how the heck they fit in... I mean... geez...  they merge in less with the land than the Civ4 or 5 version of rivers... you can't connect... several different paths of rivers to make one giant river spanning a continent, they don't seem to meet up or even end... you try emptying a river into an ocean and it doesn't work... what gives... now I know FE is around the corner in a few months or so... and I DO HOPE that they get around to adding a more improved version of making rivers with the maps your able to build. So far with maps... that are made they are pretty bland... "Ooooooh look... LAND as far as I can see... oh... it's some hills... oh a mountain chain... oh... some desert... oh grassland... oh looky... fallen land with lava in the mix... hey... they even got snow plains..." something missing there... NO rivers... :p

Yes, there are NO rivers.  This has been 'discussed' to death in other forums on this site.  I like rivers, and the original artwork showed rivers, LOL.  But, they just don't exist on this cursed desert planet of Elemental.  fertile land, yes - water for the thirsty land - nada.

I thought this came up recently in a dev discussion. Rivers being added.. i just don't remember if it was talking about FE or 1.3. The more i think about it though the more i think it was discussing FE. But since i can't find the specific post/discussion maybe it was all a dream..

I call laziness on the developers part for not even really thinking out a well thought out way to utilize rivers :p granted... hopefully they fix the mistakes they made when FE rolls around.

There are many aspects to the landscape (including rivers) that could be changed or added to greatly improve the city planning and Civilization building aspects of the game.  It's the thing that I think needs to be fixed the most, and it's being discussed by the devs the least...

found the thread about land and stuff and why rivers were taken out of maps in EWOM

soooo I'll be waiting until the start of summer or middle of summer possibly for FE... doesn't mean I still can't have fun with EWOM XD

You know, when they say/: "there are no stupid questions but only stupid answers?" They are wrong.

Yes, one of the things about rivers is that many communities settle down near a river, but also choose a spot on the river where there is a waterfall.  The falling water is used to power various tools, mills, etc.  Civ never included waterefalls in their rivers.  OH, and EWOM also has no waterfalls (smile).

Oh, I haven't touched the campaign in (it seems like) years.  I had forgotten the rivers were there.  LOL.

lmao, first thing I played was the campaign... which left a lot to be desired... later on I looked at the map in the map editor and noticed some areas I didn't visit that were accessible. There's even an island in the southeast you can go to once you get access to the two ships towards the end of the campaign :p

never went to the island... anything worth seeing?

There is a tempel that gives you some spells, if my memory is correct.
