Are you the same person as bonscott87 over at DBSTalk?

Based on your avatar I would say so, but just checking.

Small World(wide web).

Yeppers.  I don't post much there anymore since I went OTA and Internet streaming only.  But I do check in on occasion.

Not only did it NOT solve the memory Issue (in truth have no idea..see below) but since updating to the 1.19c eta patch the game won't even run.  All it gives me is a pop up saying "Failed to Download Data file" please ensure you are connected to the internet, logged in to impulse and that the game isn't blocked by any anti virus or firewall etc..

the game just closes to desktop on launch after showing me the title screen and that popup message noted above.

Logged in, connected, and the game isn't blocked by either my AV or firewall..so in short.

EPIC FAIL!

At Release:

Elemental: F

Civ V: C-

AI War: B (this would be when I got it in fall 2010, since its actually a 2009 game)

Recettear: B+

Starcraft 2: A

WoW: Cataclysm: A-

Mass Effect 2: B-

End of 2010:

Elemental: D

Civ V: C

AI War: B

Recettear: A-

Starcraft 2: A

WoW: Cataclysm: A-

Mass Effect 2: B-

Now:

Elemental: D+ (It's unquestionably better, but I have a hard time getting interested at this point with Rift competing for my attention.)

Civ V: C (Can't really improve without mechanics changes.)

AI War: A (Light of the Spire FTW)

Recettear: A-

Starcraft 2: A

WoW: Cataclysm: A-

Mass Effect 2: B- (Bioware's DLC is as usual outrageously overpriced, so the game hasn't really changed.)

Also limited it to games that I bought and kept playing at various points in the year... otherwise Final Fantasy 14 would make the list with the rare F----. That was without a doubt the worst game of 2010.

Release:

War of Magic: D

Fallout: New Vegas: A

Civ 5: C

Dragon Age:  A

Now:

War of Magic: B-

Fallout: New Vegas: A

Civ 5: C

Dragon Age: A

The Witcher: A.  I didn't play this when it launched, but their impressive ability to not abandon the game and improve it with huge, free patches/DLC was awesome and convinced me I had to buy it.  I have really, really high hopes for the next one.  Between this, Mass Effect 2/3 (I still have to play 2) and Dragon Age 2, I may have to quit my job.

Alpha Protocol: B-.  I didn't buy this when it first came out due to overall panning.  But I picked it up on the cheap... and it has bugs (oh god the bugs) but the character interactions really are top notch so I'm saddened we aren't going to see an improved upon game here.  I'm really coming to dislike the polish Obsidian puts into its games.  Fallout: New Vegas seems to be their only exception (and even that launched with bugs... but then so did Fallout, so there you go).  Hopefully the don't screw up Dungeon Siege.

Starcraft 2: Unplayed.  Oddly, I don't think I've actually ever owned a Blizzard game.  My friends tried to get me into Starcraft, Warcraft, and Diablo and I'd try... but ugh.

I have same thinking with Lord Xia and Kael, Elemental War Of Magic is too ambitious trying to achieve to many things without a clear thought on how all those mix to happen together nicely.

At Release: 4/10 -(1.0 to 1.05)

Good - Deep,

Bad - extremely buggy, appear to be unpolished - incomplete Voice over etc, Stupid AI, uninteresting magics, lousy campaign presentation, low linkage to huge fundamental stories, no multi player at all, no tutorial, no variety for strategy in multiple victory condition, Gameplay design too complicated without a good way to mix them

End of 2010: 6/10 ( v1.11)

Good - Deep, Much more stable, somewhat better AI, multiplayer

Bad -Still largely unpolished especially on incomplete voice over, still have lousy campaign presentation  - All the story in 1 book,  a few line of with texts, ow linkage to huge fundamental stories, still no tutorial, no variety for strategy in multiple victory condition, Gameplay design too complicated without a good way to mix them - thank god Kael do not add another dungeon for Fallen Enchantress

Now - I don't know, I have uninstall the game even i purchase limited edition (is ok, just my personal decision considering the fun) and decided to wait for Fallen Enchantress.

Final words:

Stardock is really one of the  good game developers I ever known, however

Despite the later presence of games which resemble Master of Magic (such as the Age of Wonders series), reviewers like Kyle Ackerman and GameSpot editor Andrew Park lament they never capture its spirit.

AT RELEASE:

END OF 2010:

E: War of Magic: B - kind of waiting for the new systems to hash out to really get back into it, but my feelings about the game overall haven't really changed. I still enjoy it and am glad I got the game.

Starcraft 2: C+ - newness starting to wear off, not sure if the game just isn't for me or if just having a few sides is making it feel less deep/not many things to try.

...

Oooookay.

Here goes.

AT RELEASE:

Elemental: C- (negative reviews put me off this game)

Starcraft 2: A  (put on Depends and waited until midnight on launch day...)

Civilization 5: A (very good first impression; hex maps with OUPT are welcome change)

SupCom2: B- (Is this Supreme Commander for console gamers?)

DOW2: B- (Is this Dawn of War for console gamers?)

END OF 2010:

Elemental: B- with magic system changes; still laggy and glitchy

Starcraft 2: A- (finished campaign, still play occasionally)

Civilization 5: B (don't like stream of DLC; game is laggy in late stages on large maps; Montezuma is scary)

SupCom2: B+ (Hey, this is kinda fun! And there's a Monkeylord! And a flow economy again! And my CPU is still at room temperature!)

DOW2: B- (Dang, this IS Dawn of War for console gamers)

NOW:

Elemental: B (with recent memory fixes and cleanup)

Starcraft 2: A- (great game to play online once in awhile with friends)

Civilization 5: B- (seems like less than Civ IV the more I play it.  No Mr. Spock.)

SupCom2: A- (IMHO as strategic as Starcraft 2, good AIs, half-hour games, lots of cool units)

DOW2: B  (OK, it's not original recipe, but stuff blows up, splats, and fries mighty good.)

Bonus question:

The memory issue seems fixed, but the game is still practically riddled with bugs. I was just trying to play it again today...and I'm still amazed just how much this game still feels like a shaky Beta rather than a finished product that's been out for a while. Just little things, like colors not changing on the faction creation screen, sovereign creation text always saying he's a Miner, ctd's every now and then, little delays and hitches and stutters, and in general the game still feels really unpolished. It's like it's something made in a Basement, rather than by Stardock. :(

Should also add in these references just to put things in comparison.

Dragon Age: ORigins - 1st half of game - A+, 2nd half C. You can only draw a game out for so long!!!!! Was gonna start Mass effect 2 after this game, still havnt started mass effect 2. Almost Finished it, but damn its a grind to the end. And thats with minimal sidequesting. 70hrs and counting.

Honestly, New Vegas was the most solid game of all of these games. It was fun and engaging, while also creating a much more cohesive world than Fallout 3. The biggest issue I had with it was that after two completed games, I feel like I have experienced the vast majority of what the world had to offer.

Civ V, for me, was a bit of a let down. In all honesty, the game does have a solid design for the kind of experience they wanted it to be, and I can very much appreciate that. While the technical issues definitely a bit of a let down, the real killer for me was the little things that just kept alienating me from the setting. For instance, archers being able to do a ranged attack but infantry were melee only.

This is hard, since my gaming is kinda-offbeat.  I'll grade based on what is currently on my work comp.  I grade this way

F: under 6/10

D: rate between a 6-7

C: 7-8

B: 8-9

A: 9-10.

Most games get F's or D's.  I didn't rate games I buy, considered trash, then dumped, such as Magicka.

LAUNCH

Elemental: F.  Sorry, game was unacceptable on release day by anyone's standard, let alone Stardock's.

EU3 DW:  C.  Some good and some bad

Din's Curse Demon War: A-  This was my game of the year for 2010, and it took a random buy on Impulse to get it.  I would highly recommend picking this up on Impulse when it comes out, which should be next month.  HIGHLY recommend if you like action RPG-type games.

MNC: B

Warband: B- MP was fun, SP not a big improvement

End of 2010

Elemental: C.  You brought the game up, but still unacceptable

EU3 DW: C.  Stll unpatched as of this point

DCDW:  A.  Really good improvements

MNC: B+.  Still a 2nd-rate TF2, but TF2 is currently a 3rd-rate TF2.

Warband: B Some nice mods and improvements

Now:

Elemental: C.  Willing to play game to test memory leaks right now.  Will come back fully for FE beta.

EU3 DW: B-  patch looks promising, wish hordes were better.  Waiting for Magna Mundi instead

DCDW: A bordering on A+.  More really good improvements, and when I complained about something, the next patch had 30+ changes related to it.

MNC: B+.  Still gotta work on balance some, (Snipers OP)

Warband: B.  No real improvements.  Stoked for Fire and Sword.

Stuff I'm looking at for this year: (2012 stuff not put on here)

Crusader Kings 2

Shogun 2 if demo is good (next week demo)

Fire and Sword (next Mount and Blade game)

Mortal Kombat 9 (what, you thought I'd say Arcana Heart 3?)

I'll rate the games out of 10 rather than by assigning grades (perhaps a bit more clear?). I also haven't played Civ V (yet?) so I've substituted it with Supreme Commander 2, Sword of the Stars (Complete) and Galactic Civilizations II Twilight.

Release:

Elemental: 4/10
Starcraft 2: 8.5/10
Fallout New Vegas: 8/10
Supreme Commander 2: n/a, bought recently.
Sword of the Stars: n/a, bought recently.
Galciv Twilight: 8.5/10

End 2010:

Elemental: 4.5/10
Starcraft 2: 8.5/10
Fallout New Vegas: 8/10
Supreme Commander 2: n/a, bought recently.
Sword of the Stars: 8.5/10
Galciv Twilight: 8.5/10

Now:

Elemental: 5/10
Starcraft 2: 9/10
Fallout New Vegas: 8.5/10
Supreme Commander 2: 8/10
Sword of the Stars: 8.5/10
Galciv Twilight: 8.5/10

so far im siding on the progress. i have high hopes and i see the potential. devs keep up the hard work!

Marks are out of ten. The higher the better.

EWOM At release = 3.5

EWOM Now = 6.5

It's come a long ways in my opinion. Hopefully EFE will bring it up to around 8 or so. I find it a bit dull now but their is still enormous untapped potential here. Stardock should be commended with all the work they are doing to fix the game.

Civilization 5 At release = 3.5

Civilization5 Now = 4

Didn't like it and it hasn't gotten much better. Firaxis is in disarray and Greedy 2K Games have pretty well ruined this game.

It'll take a miracle to get it up to par with Civilization 4. Firaxis and 2K Games should be tarred and feathered.

Victoria II At release = 7

Victoria II Now = 8

Very good game that had a pretty good release. (Now HOI III disasters here.)

Could become an excellent game with a well thought out expansion. Paradox Interactive is a good company who gives a damn.

I must also put in a word for Torchlight as well. Excellent game that's going to get even better with Torchlight II. A well done hack and slash game by a company that clearly has their priorities straight. Runic Games = awesome.

Thinking back to major titles released in 2010...

At Release:

Elemental: F, but awesome in the way that a trainwreck in slow motion is awesome - easily worth the money in entertainment value, just not as intended.

Starcraft 2: A, the distillation of traditional RTS gameplay with some remarkably good single-player campaign design.

CiV: B, some crucial innovation, but some technical issues emerge surrounding DLC and succession games.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2: A+, whoa, gorgeous graphics and the best sound design ever made for an FPS. (it seems odd to include an FPS game in this discussion, but it's a piece of context)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat: A+, doesn't recapture the meaningful story of the original, but is so much better in technical terms.  A fantastic RPG mixing exploration with an ultimate linear goal.

End of 2010:

Elemental: F, now it's just bad; at this point the many remaining bugs and persistent hideous balance issues are tiresome rather than hilarious.  Worn out it's welcome, and rarely if ever touched.

Starcraft 2: A, yet I'm not playing it anymore.  It's still an amazingly deep game, but it's just too demanding to keep up with.

CiV: C, long since uninstalled after it's exceptionally shallow nature (courtesy of the terrible tactical AI and a one-dimensional optimal strategy) is played out.  Has mod potential.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2: A, despite having mastered the basic flow of an information-based team FPS (dynamics caused by destructible terrain and team-wide 3D spotting), I'm still learning nuances of how different weapons handle given the ballistic system - and uncovering new playstyles each time!  The lack of mod tools means that even the variation provided by destructible environments begins to wear thin after a couple hundred hours of playtime though.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat: A+, mods push this game over the top; not only can it be tweaked to be one of the most unforgiving survival-action RPGs around, but it also becomes one of the most beautiful games in existence when the engine's potential is unleashed by modders.

Now:

Elemental: D, it doesn't seem to explode in my face much anymore, and some of the very worst imbalances are being toned down, but there's still basically no compelling reason to play given the blandness.  Waiting for Fallen Enchantress.

Starcraft 2: A, but I'm still not playing it.  I'm now tinkering with the more casual Dawn of War II: Retribution multiplayer.

CiV: C, the upcoming balance patch sounds interesting mechanically, but I doubt that they'll ever address the tactical ability of the AI.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2: A, finally mastering the VSS after it's different ballistic qualities made me initially dismiss it.  Still wishing there were more maps, but I'm not likely to stop playing any time soon.  New tactics spring to mind every time I dive into the game data, even though I've already logged over 400 hours online since the multiplayer beta began.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat: A+, I'm now on my third playthrough of the game, which is my second modded playthrough, and I'm still discovering new things whenever I take the time to wander.  One of my favorite action-RPGs of all time.

Basically, it all boils down to a mixture of casual-ness and depth.  I want to keep discovering new things about each game (disqualifying CiV and eventually Elemental), but I also hate feeling like professional study is required to win (disqualifying Starcraft 2).  Of games that were released in 2010, Bad Company 2 and Call of Pripyat are the only games that I feel compelled to return to.

I am eagerly buy everything that catch my sight and not too expensive. Elemental, actually, is exclusion from that rule, because I had big hopes for it, and it was gifted to me. :) It's mostly because I haven't much time for actual playing, and I tend to play big games. So every other title in list mostly bought very cheap, so it is not exactly "AAA-list". :)

So, at release:

Drakensang, Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Elemental, BioShock 1-2 - 9/10. High expectations for probably living classic.

Torchlight, Civilization 5, Monkey Island 1-2 (remake), Tales of Monkey Island - 8/10. Looks promising, but more of the same...

Mass Effect 1 and 2, Recettear, Guardians of Graxia, Eador: The Creation, DeathSpank - 7/10. It could be good, but mostly aquired because of curiosity: what is it? :)

After some playing:

Elemental - 6/10. Unplayable. Too many logic bugs. I have nothing against crashes every ten minutes, but having constructor that cannot create pre-defined units, abilities that do nothing and zone of control that work by unknown rules madden me!

Monkey Island 1-2 - 8/10. Exactly what it seems. Only remake, and nothing more. But good one. The same about Mass Effect 1 - it is better than it seems in RPG part, but cloning locations killing it. 7/10. DeathSpank is the same 7/10 mediocrity as it seems in the beginning.

Recettear, Guardians of Graxia, Eador - better than it seems! 8/10.

Torchlight - the more of the same. Civilization 5 - buggy as hell. It is better than Elemental, but still very strange sometimes. Ideas interesting, though, and they removed most of bad solutions of Civ4. 7/10.

Mass Effect 2 - WAY better than Mass Effect 1! 9/10. Classic!

Tales of Monkey Island - I never could believe that someone could recreate LA classic way of adventuring. 10/10.

Others still in queue. :)

Now:

Elemenlal: 7/10. It was fixed somewhat, but still have too many strange aspects to actually playing it for me. I still have high hopes for patches.

Monkey Island 1-2, Tales of Monkey Island, Mass Effect 1-2, Eador, Recettear, DeathSpank - the same as in process.

Torchlight and Guadians of Graxia - too shallow in the end. 6/10. I wouldn't need it.

Civilization 5 - 8/10. They removed most of obvious bugs. I still don't content with some of their's design decisions (where is my luxuries, for example? Unseen treasures, eh?), but it is mostly "normal" 4x game for now. :)

I graded based on modability and DRM.

At release:

E:WoM- 9

Starcraft- 2

Fallout: NV- 4

Civ V- 7

Today:

E:WoM- 9.1

Starcraft- 1

Fallout: NV- 1

Civ V- 8.3

I have to say that while Elemental is at the top of the modding scale, there are alot of editors we still need.

Bonus question: Sort of much better but on a huge map and with all players around 250+ turns it really starts to bog down! But if you save and exit and come back in it runs smoother for anther 30+ turns and also it has not crash will at lest not yet....
