Is elemental fun yet?

I pre-ordered the game a full year in advance when i heard if was the spiritual successor to Master of magic, my favorite game of all time.

I played it the 1st night it was available for download when the street date was broken.  My reaction was "what is this is crap? WTF Stardock?"

Being a big supporter of the company, I knew they would be passionate about the user input and they would get to fix it up soon.

I played about 2 months ago, I assumed that all the bugs/issues had been addressed.  I played as the "evil" race, built my workshop and other buildings I was allowed, but I couldn't gain prestige and I was never able to build a single unit.  I still had a felling of "What the hell am I supposed to be doing?  Why isn't this working?"  I haven't played since.

I admit, I have not given Element a fair shot, I want to make sure it's better before I waste my time.

What say you?

TL;DR : I tried the game a while ago, it's not fun.   Is the game fun yet?  Reply Yes/No, and comment why if you like.

No.  The world is bland, the gameplay quickly becomes repetitive, and the tactical combat AI is just plain awful.  Hopefully Fallen Enchantress (which as an "early adopter" you will get for free when it is available) will remedy all this.

If you really want to give it a try now, mods mitigate some of the above.  Go to the mod forum and give ACP, Extended Factions and some others a look.

nothing special changed for now the game is just more stable

Yes Its very fun to me now

Not for me.  Though I want to like it.

I'm finding that it is not stable and though I have a computer with far more of everything than the game's system requirements call for, it still crashes.  And stardocksupport is very slow to respond, and requires you jump through too many hoops to make it worth the effort.  They told me to install something that would analyze  my computer and would post a zip file on my desktop, then email it to them but the zip file is twice the size of anything SDsupport will allow you to email to them.  It all just seems bush league to me.

Maybe ver 2.0 or this fallen enchantress thing, or something else down the road will be fun and challenging and run well.  I'm patient and I can wait and I want Stardock to pull this off.

How many "Is Elemental fun yet" threads do we really need?

If you haven't found it fun yet, then you probably never will.

That's "War of Magic" you're talking about; Elemental might very well be a good game (and probably will be at least a very different game) with the release of Fallen Princess.

Now maybe it's the "cup is half-full" guy in me but I have a feeling once the memory ceiling issue is resolved, we may start to see some rapid improvements in AI and other things. The game may quickly become fun to more people. Then again, I could be wrong. I think it's fun now but the AI doesn't challenge me enough as it stands.

I would say yes and no. It is somewhat fun to play right now, but a little bland. But I find myself thinking that Fallen Enchantress will be (or has been promised to be) much better so feel like I should wait for that before investing much more time in Elemental. So that makes Elemental less fun to play now. My 2 cents worth.

I think we need an "Is Elemental fun yet" thread after every patch... that way SD will know if the game is fun or not.

This has been my issue all along, and the reason why I never got EWoM in the first place.

I see the potential, and lust for it, but I don't want to spend hours with a bland broken hag while she transforms herself into my every desire.

At some point I'll only remember the hag and it will make me enjoy the final evolution less.

An odd point of view perhaps, but an honest one.

I find the game quite a bit of fun now.  Worth the buying price, just for the hours of entertainment it's given me.  It's not as challenging or balanced as it could be, and still needs polish, but we're getting to it.

If you think having the game crash to desktop with an "Out of Memory" error in every game you have played more then 6 months after release is fun, then yes.

Games crashing to desktop is not a real bother if they are fun and you are eager to start it again and again to enjoy it. I played a few games that had bad crashing errors (some were never patched) but the fun factor just kept you going.

With Elemental, I play one game after each patch and once the game crashes I forget about it until the next patch. Although this version is better then the last beta (as they toned down the number or creatures attacking you and all that) it is still lacking in so many ways.

I just hope FE (and the exp after that) finally bring us "the fun".

I mean Sword of the Stars is a MUCH better game after all the expansions then it was at start (I didn't play it then but that is what they say on the forums) so I hope something similar happens to Elemental games.

Still very very bland for me. I didn't care that much about the tech issues, i was just shocked that at release and even now MoM has more "pop" and tactical depth than EWOM does.

Amen.

Since 1.19 I played for a few hours and it was definitely a bit more fun.. but once I went to sleep a couple of days ago, I've not had the urge to play again. i've not completed one single game since it came out, I think that's a pretty strong statement.

Once the new game comes out (Fallen Enchantress), we'll see.  If you've not already bought, i'd wait for that to come out then try it after a couple of days so you can see what the feedback is.

Its very stable now according to the majority that is playing, I heard mention of fun being added, or at least new features in 1.3.

Someone personally went to the office to complain advise (?) about tactical combat and the complete lack of skills/strategy so I'm crossing my fingers on this one. Right now for me its a slow race between Civ 5's promise of actually providing modders ability to mod the game outside of raw basics like civs for single player and Elemental's new stand alone expansion in which we are promised ponies. Personally I've given up on the War of Magic version and I greatly respect Kael and Jon, so I do have hope for Fallen Enchantress. At the very least we have Lord Xia to keep us amused on the forum if all else fails.

To keep it short: NO!

Just uninstalled

It's fun, for a short while, then you realize how shallow parts of the game are or how little mistakes you find annoy you, and etc etc...at least that's where I am.  When I play, I just keep thinking, if they had made this little change or did this a little differently, blah, blah, then I get fed up and quit.  Big problem is the world is bland, so the sense of exploration and wonder evaporates quickly.

While, since FE seems to be basically a re-write, they can write things better in Round 2. ;-)

Heh, these forums are even more sad then NWN2 forums were at times :D

Actually, NWN2 forums are at the moment more populated and more fun then here :D

Sad is in the tear of the cryer. =)  What I like about the Stardock forums is they feel a bit like a home on the internet.  People can be just a little irreverent at times, but there are a lot of good people who have their home away from home here too. =) ;-)

Best regards,
Steven.

I use to be on the NWN2 forums and was banned.  I had that game from day one, and after losing 3 30+ hour games to bugs and having to start over for a fourth time,  I flipped out there and made a dozen or so crazy rants...
