Steam Christmas Sale

Yeah, yeah, this is a Stardock forum and we all hate Steam, blah blah...

Anyway, lots of specials like last year for those who have been on the fence about various titles.  Most titles on the site are 10-90% off.

Some notable stuff today:

Super Meat Boy $3.75 (why isn't this game on Impulse at all?!)

Various Indie Game packs for $5 each (5 games per pack)

CivIV Complete $6.25(!)

Evil Genius $1.50

Serious Sam HD 1&2 $7.50

Valve Complete Pack $25

And this is day 1.  I'd love to support Impulse here, but the total Christmas sale they've had this month so far has sucked compared to one day of Steam offers.

I don't know, I think Sid Meier's Pirates for $2.50 is pretty good.

None of the other deals have jumped out at me much, but then, I don't like spending money in general.

So many of the Impulse deals aren't available in the UK it is just silly. I would guess that at least 50% of the offers aren't.

TBH this probably counts as advertising which is against the rules of most forums. Honestly I've thought the sales on steam this holiday were pretty lame until today. If I hadn't already played most of these they would be steals, a few that jump out at me are:

75% off Prince of Persia, all of the newer games.

Above off of Titan Quest complete, Portal, Fear 1&2.

66% off Bad company 2.

3 bucks for Deus Ex and sequel (yeah I know they are old but great games).

It does sound like it, yes.  It's not my intention to shill for Steam here though, I just wanted to generate some awareness in case there are people on the PC Gaming forum here who didn't know about of this.  Regardless of who you buy your games from, there are some really good deals here.

If Impulse was doing the same, I'd be posting it too.  However there have maybe been 2-3 notable offers from them this year.  They were offering CivIV (just the base game) for $10.  Last year Impulse had the complete pack for $10.  They've had some of their exclusives on sale, but it's been pretty half-assed; Sins base game only half-off, GalCiv 2 for $10 off, Elemental (Collector Edition only) $20 off.  Don't know if Stardock lost leverage with some of the companies, they just don't care, or had no idea Steam was going to essentially pull out a shotgun again.  I would rather use Impulse over Steam, but they need to throw me a bone here.  I was looking at getting the Divinity II pack for something to do over the holidays, but held off knowing this sale was coming; and, well, 33% off.  Sorry Stardock.

On a semi-related note, I really wish Gamestop would hurry up and go under so digital distributers would be free to have these sales whenever they like instead of being seasonal events.  PC Gaming would see a huge surge if the average price of new games dropped to $40 or less.  Instead we have Activision and EA demanding $60 and getting away with it.

Worth noting that some titles in this sale are not available outside NA, similar to some games on Impulse.

10 minutes ago my Steam wallet had 120€, now its down to 70€ and I expect to get that to close to 0 in less than a week.

I love sales.

This is great.  I bought Bad company 2, F.E.A.R complete and Jedi knight complete in the last 15 mins.  All for less then $30.  Awesome.  I can`t wait to see what the rest of the week brings.

Well if no one buys from them and Steam fails, then the government will just bail them out anyways right? Thats how capitalism works in NA nowadays >_>

As long as it doesn't have Steamworks, I say go for it.  Deus Ex and Invisble War for 3 bucks?  Seriously, you're not going to get a better deal than that, even if Invisible War isn't as good as Deus Ex.

Not sure what this is supposed to mean.  Are you commenting on the financial bailouts of Investment companies or the sale itself.  The sale is great, It`s Entrepreneurship at its best.

It`s selling a good product at a lower price, It`s perfect.

Main topic = good sales found at X location.  Subtopic = ...

If the government decides to bail out valve at some point, I will eat 2 pieces of paper.  Oh yeah... I'd say a rock or something, but seriously, that shit could kill me.

Another steam advertisement.

Happy...happy...joy....joy!

"We offer all your favorite games at fire sale prices and all you need to do is hand over control of your computer to us..."

Or

"Gather round, children. You see this sucker I'm holding in my hand? It could be yours for just 5 cents.Yes, that's right. Only 5 cents! All you need to do is just follow me to "the warehouse" and you can have your sucker for just a nickel."

Woody Two Legs is pretty nice indie game for 2,49 EUR (I am currently killing time at work O:)   ).

Wish impulse could do sales like this, but the few times they have a good sale it's got a country restriction on it. Looking forward to what the rest of the sales bring (and hoping I don't spend too much money as a result!)

I just have to say I got Kings Bounty on Impulse last week for $17.50.  Now on sale, steam has it for $26.25.  Impulse has been having some really amazing deals, many of which have been beating steam's prices.  Do not forget to shop around!

I hate to disappoint you, Shocker, but Steam had a Thanksgiving sale where the 3 Kings Bounty games were $7.50 combined. :P

Steam can afford to do crazy sales like this just because they move a massive amount of games. They offset the very low sale price just by the sheer number of copies they sell and come out on top. Impulse doesn't have nearly the amount of buyers to be able to do these kinds of sales, so it can never compete.

I'm with Stardock all the way.

Steam makes its money by selling other people's products...that's no fun.  So they can take their 3 dollar outdated games and shove it.

Stardock on the other hand produces great software and games.  Not only that, but they offer a clean alternative to the digital distribution mechanism.

Stardock....For honor....For glory.

Considering how long Episode 3 is taking them...:P

That's an odd statement since both Valve and Stardock make their own stuff, and both companies sell other people's stuff. :P
