Does anybody else find themselves thinking "well what do I do now" in battles?

specifically I do not feel like a general because I cannot affect a battle

I think this game may need a few changes that allow fleet tactics rather than just fleet make up to matter. At the moment once battles are joined all I can really do is watch and wait. It reminds me of starcraft in this manner. Once battle is joined you may aswell get a coffee.

I have got my moneys worth from Sins, its a great game. But one of the things it needs is some sort of fleet character or fleet enhancement to make each fleet different and potentially give the player something to do in battles.

I agree that Sins requires little micro, but unless you have no carriers, support cruisers or cap ships, you probably shouldn't go get coffee. Each of those can be micro'd to get far better results than the AI would otherwise.

And Starcraft requires 10x(probably more) more micro than Sins. Especially in small engagements, but even 200/200 fights can always use you microing your units into the best position. Hell, some unit compositions(Protoss sentry heavy or Terran bio heavy) essentially require good micro to work well.

That's not true at all.  You can select groups of ships and tell them which targets to attack and in which order (very important) and you also need to micro-manage abilities on your capital ships and keep a close eye on them (so you retreat them if the enemy starts focus-firing on them).  If you have frigates or cruisers that have useful abilities (especially Guardians or Subverters) you'd want to micro-manage those as well.

I'm a pro player and I play against real human opponents over Ironclad Online and I'm always keeping a very close eye on the battles and micro-managing my ships.  (Maybe you can get away with letting the computer use horrible tactics and management against its equally awful self, but you can't do that against real opponents.)  Your ships and strikecraft always need instructions.

I have primarily played coop or VS AI so I am sure the game is more challenging vs humans. My point though is that battles can often get repetitive and boring by the end of a match.

I guess I would not mind as much if the ships were more homeworld esque with turrets and Z axis etc. I have always wanted to see more than ships  just lining up against each other. For instance ordering your ships to chase and box in an enemy vessel would be cool. Even ordering a protective box around a dying capital. That sort of thing.

Its not always like that... but I may have just played it to death ;)
