Enjoying the latest build, but...

I'm very pleased with the current direction of Elemental.  The tech trees are fleshing out, and spells are looking pretty good.

The current issue I have is that with the global magic system, accumulating points to actually cast spells is awful.  After playing through a couple of games, only a handful of nodes ever appeared making mana production moot.  I can recall having one good battle involving magic which burned through the mana stockpile and never regenerated enough to make a difference the remainder of the game.

One thing that would be of assistance is having some spells not having persistent costs.  Enchant weapon and some of the low level creature summonings come to mind.

Once you get some Shards and some mana producing buildings, mana goes well. As long as you don't waste your mana in pointless casting. And now with that new mana generating talent, even better.

Enchanments without upkeep costs don't seem a good idea to me. +5 Attack for free until I cancel it? Even if you increased the casting cost of it, once casted why should I ever cancel it then?

Right now it's a very MoMish.

As I'd stated, I've played a number of games in the latest beta.  So far the continent has been VERY sparsely populated with nodes.  Like only 5-6 nodes total.  Kind of hard to build up any sort of mana base when so few nodes are to be had.

If you connect your shards to your towns and build the mana producing city structure then mana isn't much of an issue aslong as you dont do silly thing like keep summons constantly active.

Connect a shard to a town?  I've only had the game for 3 days so I apologize if this is a complete newb question.

Hmmmm... I never seem to have a lack of mana, if anything I almost think there is an overabundance.

I general grab attunement for my SOV, Doubles mana production initially. Get shard harvesting early in order to start building a base of production.

I almost never have any persistent enchantments running including imbue champion. I ALWAYS cast before battle and then dispel afterwards. Also I generally only use spells on big battles, e.g. when I'm about to capture an enemy capital.

Currently sitting on turn 138 of a game. Hard difficulty. I have 738 mana in reserve. However in this game i did get lucky and score two shards near my capital.

build towards your shard from the town, once your buildings get close enough the outer wall will wrap around the resource node and said node will count as part of the town.

 

Once you've done that you can build the shrine for a +3 mana/turn boost. Also take the attuned trait. It's awesome.

Okay, I missed that one somehow as well.

So it's not just enough to have the shard in your sphere of influence?

Hmm...
The Shard will produce mana once in your area of influence and built over it. To be part of the city just makes it more difficult to have the temple destroyed by random monsters/enemies.

Except that the Greater Shard Upgrade and Temple of Essence require it to be in a city.
