teehee!

Funny

Just having a muck-around game 1v1 Vasari Vs Advent on Cruel (yep, I chose Vas to give me an edge, I don't consider myself a professional at all) anyways, so colonization is going pretty well. Had a few skirmishes with the AI too, nothing I can't handle. But 38 minutes in something rather amusing occurred.

Any player here worth his salt knows that the Advent Mothership has the best colonization ability (bummer the rest of the faction sucks atm inho) however, Vasari are stuck with the suckiest (they have everything else going for em so its not a big problem). Well, about 35 mins in I saw an asteroid had just been recently colonized in my territory by the enemy. However they hadn't destroyed the militia yet and the NPC Krosov had been happily bombing away at the new fledgling advent colony with everything it had.

Maybe you can see where this is going...

When my egg and escort arrived I saw all this and had a chuckle. I chased away his mothership and blasted away at what was left of the asteroid. As soon as I colonised the roid myself however I noticed I was enjoying the glorious 30% discount on planetary upgrades the mothership had put there.

Didn't know if it was possible but it made me lol.

I have the replay if y'all are interested. I have no idea where and how to upload it however.

It's an AI, you're a human, that's a far bigger advantage than any of the factions have.

As of 1.181, this is no longer true.  The TEC Akkan's colonization is now the best in the game.  The Progenitor's colonize is still awesome, and overall I'd say it's still the better capital ship due to its other abilities.  No arguments about Vasari's suck in this regard.

I do agree that Advent is totally leaning on the Progenitor and Halcyon right now.  The Halcyon is right up there with the Progen carrying its otherwise gimped faction.

LOL!  That is just plain awesome.

It makes sense; the Progenitor is buffing the planet with this special ability.  Just because it changes ownership does not mean the ability goes away.

Yea t'was a great moment. I bought up both the infrastructure and the health+explore upgrades because why not? lol Celebration of lulz!

Oh and yes I know being a human is a humongous advantage to me. But one of those advantages we have is the ability to learn. I have never beaten cruel AI 1v1 simply because I don't have the time like many gamers have and thought that Vas v Adv. was a good way to ease into it.

I won't argue with your analysis of the Akkan's ability however. Because you know your sh%t when it comes to Sins mate and I wouldn't be seen arguing strategy with Darvin.

The best way to beat the AI is to find a nice choke point, lay down a starbase, then start massing carriers with bombers.  If you can reach about 100 squads of bombers, the AI simply cannot beat you and you should be able to thrash it regardless of its difficulty level.  Throw in some caps and support cruisers as desired.

A big cloud of Vasari bombers with maxed out phase missiles is downright delightful regardless of which faction you're throwing them against, and the only real threat the AI ever deploys against such an army is phasic traps.  Like all static defenses, however, the AI will happily fight outside of their effect radius.  Use local-area targeting to keep your strike craft from straying into range and you're cool.

I remember my first win against vicious after getting Diplomacy.  Knocked out one of his planets by putting a starbase there before he could react.  At this point, the game was effectively over because he'd filled all his logistics slots but had only one factory.  This meant that the AI had HUNDREDS of units queued up that it just couldn't build with only a single factory, and since the AI never demolishes logistics structures, this clinched it.

I am not infallible, and am prone to errors and bias like anyone else.  Feel free to challenge anything I say; you'll find I'll never dismiss you outright and instead present a detailed analysis of my views; one of the main reasons I'm here is because I enjoy discussing the finer points of the game.  The discussion and analysis is a big chunk of the fun for me.
