Almost…there

They’re currently working on staging the new beta build for the upcoming Elemental:War of Magic v1.1.  If you’re not into test builds, definitely stick with the official release build.

For this week, Kael and team focused largely on stability and performance but there were some significant game mechanic changes as well that should make the game play with a much better…hard to describe but a much better pacing.

I finally got to spend quality time with the AI.  That’s the whole point of working on games for me. Having Kael in charge of the project has allowed me to focus on the parts I’m specialized on so I’m hoping you guys notice some significant improvements in this beta build in the way the AI plays the game.  Over the coming months and years it’ll just keep getting better at playing the game.

We have some huge (like things that will make some big news) announcements coming up in the next few weeks regarding Elemental.  I realize that when games are released that’s usually the beginning of the end of their work.  For us, the release was just the beginning.

As a reminder, anyone who purchases Elemental before December 31 can still get the first expansion pack for free.  I talked today with Random House and our music composer about new story elements and music for that. It’s going to be pretty exciting.

I hope you guys are excited about what’s coming. We’re having a blast working on the game and interacting with the community with their ideas and suggestions.  And we hope you like what we’re about to update.  It should be quite a more more stable and faster. Fingers crossed.

Is now too early to be hammering the F5 key?

I think they've said it takes about 2 hours to stage... so not yet. :)

I can't remember what your guys' schedule was regarding the 1.1 release. Is the public release build on track for before or after the holidays?

On some previous screen shots of the game, there seems to be a debug mode where you could see ressource usage. Is there a way we can access this mode? I would like too see how much of my system ressources it used by the game.

Indeed I am excited!  I've quite enjoyed these release day build-ups.  With other games we get just the one pre-release buzz.  With Elemental we get them everytime a new build is slated for release.  Thanks for keeping us in the loop, and bringing us into the fold.  And man, you work some wicked hours bud!  I commend your dedication and drive.

LoL, after the big news that Kael was being brought on board... each time I read you mention some upcoming big news, I can't help but wonder if Sirian (Civ4 map scripter +) will be brought on board as map consultant/contractor.  The guys got a creative and crafty mind along with a love for strategy and fantasy games. As well as a motivation for blogging game diaries (the write-up he and Sulla did of a pre-release Civ4 succession game was a grand event).  Bringing him on board, would also impact the Realms Beyond crowd... a forum community specializing in succession games, save game challenges, and other communal SP activities.  Hehe one can wonder...

Spooky, that convinced me to an instant buy. Will the expansion pack automatically be added to our accounts as soon as it is available?

When I purchased the game a couple of months back, even out of the box the campaign (which seemed not to fully utilize all the games' features) was fun.  I was totally (and pleasantly) surprised to find that the free play was (to me) 10x more fun to play.  The recent updates & betas only made a good game great.  I have to fight for computer time with my 8-year old son (who is also hooked to this game), so I'm a bit afraid to tell him of an upcoming expansion -- I may never get back on to play.  LOL.

I know that it took great effort to create this game; I wish to thank everyone at Stardock who helped create such an incredible gaming experience!

I have not had time to play this game (or any game) at all lately, so I would also like to know if those of us who bought the game early automatically get the expansion packs added to our Impulse accounts, or if we actually have to take action of some sort before the 31st?

You have to have updated it at some point. Most folks probably have done this already, though.
