1.09n Fire Giants, etc. seem to be missing now

One of the things I really enjoyed about pre-1.09n Elemental was the plethora of summoning spells for the various elemental schools (Fire, Earth, etc.) that were available.

For the most part, I'm not seeing these in 1.09n.  If you learn School of Summoning, yes Demonic Ally, etc. become available, but these aren't the same as Fire Elementals and Fire Giants, etc..

I'd argue that under the new Mana Generation system, the cost of Summoning creatures is now more significant than it was under the old system (which I like better btw, but that's a topic for another thread).  If you are only generating 6 mana a turn, and 4 mana is tied up with summoned creatures, that reduces your mana regeneration rate significantly.

Plus I just like having Element specific creatures at my beck and call, to run blocker for my Sovereign.

I never considered summoned Elementals as game breaking.  They weren't really that much tougher than regular units (in some cases less powerful), and were nice flavor for the game.  Even so, the cost to summon them can easily be adjusted to reflect however powerful they may be under the new system.

i noticed this; i assumed that they just hadn't gotten round to re-implementing all the spells for the beta? these creatures are all still in the game (ie, spawning wild)

perhaps they are downgrading them to fire midgets... that takes time you know. Hopefully they add them back with other elemental summons... fire unicorns anyone? water ducks? biker mice?

I would guess that Summoning + Fire results in spells that are in both schools.  Hopefully they are planning on making the ownership of the various nodes have a much greater impact on what you can accomplish (i.e. actually make them valuable).

Or even go so far as to make it Book of Summoning + Book of Fire + Fire Shard = Fire Giants etc. Same for the other Elements....

agree--I miss them too. As the game stands, I use creatures but only for specific battles where I might lack the power to defeat an opponent. For me the creatures just run interference while other units do the killing---I don't use them for extended periods of time--too much mana cost.

Or even go further and make custom summons (design your own - just like custom units) where you pick their abilities based on available books/shards and the mana cost/upkeep are based on how powerful the unit is.  I can dream, can't I?

You will also have a harder time maintaining the stack of summons since they will have a maintenance now that draws from the global mana pool.
