Prepare for ramble:
I will agree to disagree, especially in the graphical department. Now, I can understand us having different aesthetic values, but I should still say that I really prefer the cell-shaded art style of LOL, even if it borrows Warcraft 3's colour pallet. While Demigod is more traditionally 3D, it has some pitfalls in my eyes. First, it suffers from a now very common ailment: Brown. Most of the maps, and characters, "feature" the color brown rather heavily. On top of that, aside from the demigods, minions, and tower/shops, the map is essentially a flat, featureless texture. Together, these have always made the maps seem rather bland to me.
Demigod does allow a greater zoom. I'll give you that.
It's true, LOL has only two(4 if you count different "themes") maps, with a third on the way, but you can't deny they are more vibrant, featured, and detailed than those in Demigod. the greater level of detail also serves gameplay purposes. The tree-lines and cliffs break up line of sight and offer an escape option for characters with abilities like jump or blink. The neutral creatures allows for more varied strategies. There are character builds that revolve completely around staying off the main paths and focusing on the "jungle creeps."
The brush, which allows you to hide, is a huge difference. This falls into the question of maps as well, but I think it's too big a point to tack on. It's a game-changer. The brush plays a big role in facilitating LOL's ambushes and amazing escapes. Successful teams use it to their advantage, and keep a special eye on it when they aren't using it.
Demigod does have some meta-gaming, but I was referring more to the customization you can do outside of the matches. The WoW-like talent tree, the "summoner spells" you can add to any character, the runes which you apply to boost things like hp, attack speed, magic penetration, cool-down reduction, etc. The way you set up your characters before matches have huge impacts on the way they play, and thus on team dynamics. And then you have some characters with inherent support skills that do things like the flags do, such as give the entire team more gold, or faster experience growth...
The flags are actually one of the things I ended up disliking the most. I found most games ended up one of two ways: One team steamrolled the other, or we spent far too long capturing and recapturing flags. Very rarely, it felt, did I play a game that was neither a stalemate nor one-sided.
But... yeah. I won't say you're wrong to like Demigod more, but I certainly value things differently than you do.
