Sovereign Starting Weapon

Okay, say I wanted to be really cheap and wanted to replace my Sovereign's staff with, say, a Longsword, so that on the game's startup, I'd have a Longsword. Is this possible? I know there's a value for the starting weapon in the XML file, but I don't know if replacing it will do anything? Can someone shed some light on this?

Just get the War Staff in the creation screen it has Attack 15, and costs no more creation points than the attack 3 staff.

No, I'm talking about getting weapons that AREN'T in the creation screen to be equipped to my Sovereign at the start of the game.

Never mind, I tested it and it turns out you CAN equip your Sovereign with other weapons.
