Frustrated

My sad sad story

Decided since 109n was released that i would finally start my first game, well let me tell you tis not going well...

I have 1 city with Sov,2 peasants, Jarusk, and a pioneer I have built all i could build Beacon of Light, Lab, Reasearch Building.... I have a Fire shard, Arcane Library, Gold mine, anf Fertile Land all tiles I can not develop. Because I either they are not on the building list like farms or they all say no citizens or no food...

So thinking to myself I must have to research Farms so I pick Civilization wait 25 turns and pick Harvesting only to find out Harvesting has nothing to do with Farming... DOH I'm losing .9 Gildar a turn with no hope of getting out of this death spiral.

Needless to say tis not fun... what have I done wrong???  Or should I just go back to Age of Wonders or MOM, games that I might add had decent Manuals which I guess Stardock has decided that this game is so perfect that written instructions are not needed....

Sorry for the last statement but it burns me that this game is so hard to understand and no manual and no tutorial.... As you can probably tell am really frustrated I have never had this much trouble getting into a game..... So any help is greatly appreciated......

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're having trouble building a farm on fertile and you say a 'farm' option is not listed in the city's building list?  This is because for resource tiles (farms, gold mines, arcane libraries, shards, etc) you actually don't build on them using the city's building list.  You click directly on the tile (i.e., the farm tile) and towards the lower left hand corner of the screen you'll see a little scroll and a next to it a little hammer.  Click on the hammer to build the resource gathering building on that tile (as long as you have the required gildar/materials etc. to build it and it is in your area of control).

Hope this helps!

Well, I haven't played the game since the release candiate, still waiting for the "Gold Master" version, aka 1.1.  But I had the same problem with I first played.  Farms are built differently then the other buildings.  I believe that, instead of the farm being in the build menu, you have to click on the fertial land tile and then the option to build the farm will pop up.  I hope that helps.

*Exactly* the same way I felt when I first played this game back when a few months ago. I can completely empathize. Unfortunately, the manual is completely useless and the hiergemowhich, whatever the hell it's called, is next to useless too.

The only way you'll learn this game is: 1) trial and error 2) read a helluva lot of posts on this forum, 3) a user on this forum made a much better version of the manual which is a 100% improvement, I'm not sure what the link is but I think it's been stickied. You can try reading it, but it might be obsolete given the 1.1 patch is currently being tested, which did some significant game overhauls.

I have a few suggestions.

Hire more heroes.  Some of them give stuff like +20% food production.  The money is a lot looser in this version, so hire heroes, get them to towns, and gear them up.

Learn and cast the spell that gives additional food to villages and towns.

Research and build caravans.  This one is really very helpful as it also results in a road network that helps you move troops.

Research and build graineries, fungus farms, etc.

Thanks Guys

Finally with your help got my Farm started.... after that maybe a hut or 2 to help with the No Citizen Problem.....

Don't know why I thought all building would be in the Construction List ..... now that I know that Special Tiles work differently should help alot....

Any other Help you think I might need ?

@cpl_rk

Thanks found the Link should help some even though it's bound to change with 1.1....

I did the same thing when I first started the game also (during initial release a while back). I almost think they should provide both the 'click on tile' AND 'click in menu' options for this. If it's the 'click in menu' option, you don't get a option to place it, it just automatically does it.
