Where's my high PQ planet??

I love Elemental, but is there any "Galciv2"-style moments, where you're exploring and come across that class 36 or higher planet.  Because THAT is a great moment, you know wars will be fought over those planets.   It's one of the things that makes GC2 great...Does that kind of thing exist in EWoM?

And shards don't really cut it.

Yes but it's done via resources. So you'd find an area that has some rare resource. This is something we're going to do a lot more with in the future.

glad to hear it.  Thanks Brad!

I always declare war to control crystal crags, magic shards, horses (too bad about the animation glitch) - towns with 3 gold mines are godly, build a palace there - mint of ravenna and then laugh maniacly as you proceed to rake in the gold - if you have them built already you can sell it and relocate.

occasionly, if the map is unlucky i will go to war over metal - but that is frustrating when you play a bigger than large map - unlock all adventure tech, and proceed to find one metal resource.... ya. It happens.

To deny the diplomatic unit resources from other players.

hmm. what else. those seem to be the biggies.

great post.  i might have to reinstall gcii.

this fills out my top 3 list of things that Elemental really needs.

1) not only "fix" economy, logistics, tactics individually but make sure they integrate in a way that forms compelling strategic empire management

2) fun/balanced/interesting special things like magic, strategic resources, etc.

3) what you said.  (locations on the world that have strategic relevance plus fun factor)

once in place then they can take it in a lot of different directions (e.g. adventurers, sophisticated industry chains) successfully, but keeping always in mind how those add ons serve the core gameplay.  i.e. don't just have a separate minigame where adventurers are out there collecting hats and boots for adventurers. i guess that's a different topic however

cheers

p.s.  oh and a random map generator, of course.

I play galcivII w both add-ons (Twlt of the Arnor) and never found a planet above 18?  What am I doing wrong?  is setting in game set up?  (sad...)

There is a race (alian that look like a pickel head, dont remember the name) that add automaticly 4 to the tile of each world.Maybe with him you can. I've got 28 one time... pretty happy about it :).

I actually started a game recently that had 2 lost libraries, a gold mine, a fertile land, an old forest and a wild warg all within two tiles of my starting tile. It was moderately insane.

These type of locations will just become great big fat red X's in my army's crosshairs.

iow: They'll attract combat units like flies to shite.

They're out there.  They're very rare, but they exist.

check for the purple stars.  Those have level 20+ planets around them... used to be 26, but now its somewhat random from 20 to 36 or something.

If you take PQ + racial feature, these can end up being like PQ 45

So look for the purple stars!

Take PQ? = Planet Quality?  You mean use a customized race, take the max PQ allowed, and a specific racial choice.  OK, will explore that.  Thank you!

Actually it is in Galciv1 where high planet quality really means something big! In galciv2 high planet quality is nice but barely manages to be of any great significance in the overall scheme of things. Getting the rare science/production x7 bonuses in the early game stages are far more exciting!

Those are cool too, but I see them far more often than the super-planets...

Didn't understand that when i first started playing.  Yes, the rare science / production I have seen once in a while.  x7 is like having a whole extra planet tucked into one tile on the planet.  Now i wish i had saved that game start... LOL
