Multiplayer experience

I'd put this in the multiplayer sub section but it doesn't seem like people check it much.

Today I played a multiplayer game with my brother.  We were both on vent to communicate.

The game went ok.  It was a lot better than 1.09b/c or whatever we had before 1.09e.

The lag was still kinda bad in between turns, the scrolling is still jerky....and you have to click on the screen to use the mouse will to zoom in and out occasionaly as who know what the engine is having you select at random....

For me Multiplayer is a key aspect to the game.  Because no mater HOW good your AI gets (and it isn't that great atm) Humans will always be more interesting to play against.

It would be nice to know the ping of the other players.

It would be awesome to get to randomise / pick the map / map type.

It would be great to be able to use custom Soverigns  /  Custom Factions.

Great feedback.

The multiplayer aspect of Elemental is something we plan to keep enhancing over time.  I agree with the points you're making.  One of the general changes that we're working on throughout the engine is a movement to a multithreaded event system.  In time, this will allow both single player games and MP games to behave a lot smoother in general, especially on lower end hardware.

It is funny you say "lower end hardware", because mine imo is pretty much top of the line and I still notice the laggy / jerkness of the game during multiplayer.  during single player it is hardly there / WAY better.

I'm running win 7 64 bit on a i7 2.67 ghz with 6gbs of ddr 3 and a geforce 470 GTX (all the latest drivers).

Oh I also forgot to mention I am hoping that eventually all the battles won't auto resolve.  Especially not player vs player ones.
