Clicking End turn = NADA

So i have had very minor issues till the release of 1.08b. Now i get to around turns 30-50 and i can no longer end my turn to progress the game. Saving = poop, new game after new game results in same issue.

I live in Barrow Alaska, my internet connection is garbage at its best, i cannot spend day after day of uninstalling and reinstalling the game and its patches trying to fix a game i WANT to play but cannot.

Seems odd to be suggesting this but maybe SD needs to release a Tester Client that is separate from the actual game but allows us all to give feedback to these haphazard patches that may fix some things but completely BORK the game in other ways. Yeah this is a MMO convention for a mainly single player game, but SD has to start thinking OUTSIDE the box. Oh and of course, unlike the Beta, actually listen to the testers advice (Looking at you Frogboy).

Anyone else getting the above error ?

It's a known bug reported back in beta where auto-exploring units will fail to move and cause the problem. Tab through your units, find the autoexploring ones, move them, and the turn will automatically end.

There may be other reasons for your bug, but this is what I have.

Hey thank you, I hope thats the reason, seems like s simple fix for me if it is.

Thanks again.

I'm at 800+ turns and got this bug right after downloading v.1.08...the game is now unplayable. I've removed any units possibly on auto explore or waiting to move and no improvement. Stardock really should be ashamed of themselves for rendering a good game useless without addressing this as I see posts about this for at least 4 weeks going back. Has anyone found any solutions besides the auto-explore one?

Obviously stuck turns shouldn't be possible. But if you do get one, post it and we'll look into it and see if we can resolve it.

Another possible problem is an Out of Memory error, and the game is auto-saving, and you're playing in full screen mode. Basically, you can't see the OOM error when you hit end turn because of playing in full screen, so it looks like the turn isn't ending, but you've actually got an error window you can't see. Try playing in windowed mode, and see if you get an OOM error popup window when you click end turn.

Thanks for the suggestion...tried it, but no error. Seems like the error is affecting quite a few players, but in different ways. One thing that seems consistent is once it happens, it persists and gets worse.

I got this problem the other day in a tactical battle.  Wasn't able to reproduce it, and of course there's no way to pull up the menu in tactical battle so I couldn't make a save.  Couldn't end turn or issue orders to any of my units.  I could still select units, see the highlighted tiles where they could move, got feedback when I clicked, but nothing happened.  Had to alt-tab and kill the program manually.  Reloaded and fought the same battle, but it didn't happen again.

Personally I have to believe this is a memory leak issue.  Every time that the game has stopped responding, I have opened task manager and the memory being used by Elemental is somewhere in the area of 800,000K-900,000K.  I'm pretty sure that Elemental should not be using 100X the memory of games like Starcraft 2 and C&C 3 and 4 or the indie title Star Ruler for that matter which does an entire 3D galaxy with a fraction of the computing resources.

It isn't, and there shouldn't be any issue until it goes past ~1.6g listed memory usage in taskman. 800-900mb is just fine. Most cases of stuck turns on the overland map are due to autoexploring units having pathing issues (checking any still yellow in the unit tree and exhausting their moves will normally let the game move on).

As well, Starcraft 2 actually uses more, but they have a 64b/LMA version. I checked taskman once when I was playing and it was well past 2gb.

Yeah, I don't think it's an actual memory leak. I have 8 gigs of ram, and monitoring the game's memory use as I play, it never goes above 1.6g, most of the time it's around 1.2-1,4g. Then, all of a sudden, bam, out of memory. I believe it has to do with save games, and some kind of data corruption. Basically the game is trying to save something that makes absolutely no sense and ends up generating the error in the process. I notice that it usually occurs once my own children starts getting born, and there are some irregularities with heroes spawning as children clone, etc... so that might be one of the cause.

I've encountered that kind of behaviour twice. First on tactical battle - one unit was unable to move - needed to auto resolve. 2nd time at strategic. Mu non-auto exploring unit aproached the city but didn't merge with it. When I moved him one tile the turn ended.

Another issue was (is?) in auto resolving. When using autoresolve on strategic map and the camera auto focus to next unit, the battle/turn would not end till I move camera over units in battle - usually I max zoom out and the battle is resolved.

All that stuff was in pre 1.08. I didn't try to reproduce them with current version.

I never have autoexploring units. Already posted in another topic with the same problem.

I even tried deleting any units still yellow in the unit tree...still stuck...

Checked that today. No focus at auto resolve didn't block the End Turn. The battle autoresolves at the beginning of the next turn. Encountered EndTurn block with ship set to autoexplore. And also ship without autoexplore but set somewhere in the fog. Also tried to set aute explore to a ship in port and got info 'No Auto move order error':)
