Moving in 1.08?? Sigh

Barren Desert tile. Movement cost, 1 movement. Tile next to it, exactly the same name, identical in appearance, movement cost 2.0. W t h?

I just started a new game and every tile in a 5 mile radius around my starting city eats up 2.0 movement. Talk about a pain in the arse trying to catch up to and hire heroes/champions moving 'away' from you. You can't catch em!

We are investigating why this would be the case.

Much appreciated. I don't mind tiles costing more movement points, but please, please make sure the amount of movement units and sovereigns are allocated are 'balanced' with these tiles and the need to explore in the beginning.

Taking 20 turns to cover 20 tiles is crazy! At most these 'expensive' movement point tiles should comprise no more than 25% of the landscape and that might be too generous!

I would hate to see 'inflated' movement point pools to cover more ground as the only option.

Lot of games I have played in the past give you abilities like flying/floating/pathfinding (or items with said abilities) early on or from the start to traverse the land and explore/attack/defend places quickly!

Same problem. If it's a problem. I notice in the changelog it has:

"+ Territory scalars now work as Empire v Fallen (e.g. Kingdom guy on Fallen territory gets penalty, etc).

is that a move penalty?

If so, explains why my couple of hired kingdom types are limping their ragged asses around the fallen desert surrounding my starting position one goddamn infuriating step at a time.

If not - for some reason almost everything around me, with or without the rugged attribute, costs 2 points to move to.

If it's intentional - can't say I'd view it as a stellar feature. I don't mind the odd slow movement choke point or patch on a map, but to have my entire starting area as a half speed zone is a tad rich. The game's pacing was already a little lacklustre.

Didn't want to shelve, but I think I will. This game's search for balance has a way to go yet. The change from a fun if buggy 1.07 to a "may be buggy" and so far pretty unfun 1.08 was unexpected.

Anyway, good luck with it. I'll catch a later patch.
