couple of combat logistical questions

First, is there anyway to get the program to have newly made ships default to "Hold Position" or "Local" without using fleets. The 'Grav Well' setting is inane almost always for my play style.

Second, is there a way to get fleets to operate such that they do not do all the 'moving to reform fleet' crud? 'Loose' doesn't seem to fix this no matter I try. Because of this I have basically been forced at higher play speeds to abandon fleets altogether which is a pain when you have lots of unit types and multiple fronts.

use control groups instead of fleets

Ctrl+1

Ctrl+2

etc etc etc

Allows you to have fleets without the buggy fleet reforming and other bugs with fleets

And you will have to manually set all the ships to from Grav well to Hold position or Local. Annoying but easy to do if you zoom out and select all the ships around the planet at once, then change their settings.

Thanks I have been doing both (ctrl groups with no fleets + using the zoom + setting the threat range). The problem with the latter is in a grav well where I am building a stream of new frigates. Gets really annoying to have to reset each time. On the other hand using ctrl groups is fine but can be a bit annoying playing at faster speeds when you have more than one battle front as you can easily forget to move one of the groups. Besides by the time I ctrl hotkey one or two 'factory' planets, I only have eight choices which isn't much if you have two battle fronts plus lots of different ships.
