Is it worth getting NOW or should i wait?

Hi,

Been watching progress for a while on this but didnt buy it straight out as with all games i get i wait till the first few bugs are sorted.

I do want to get this game but dont mind waiting untill its "ready to go" especially as there seem to have been a few issues being ironed out.

Is it at this state now or are there a few patches to go yet before i should look to get it.
I'm in no real hurry if its worth waiting.

Well, we have a few of these threads already, but I'll go again, why not?

It all depends on your financial situation and tolerance for some pretty big game issues.  If you are 4x fanatic and have a fair amount of disposable income, go for it.

If you only pick/play the 'cream of the crop' or are on a tighter budget and need to make every purchase count, I would say hold off for 1.1x and check the feedback on that patch/version.

I would wait, it's a great game (concept) but it's just not done, or at lease until a demo comes out, as the above post said, if you got the $50, a big fan a 4X's why not but if your use to a finished product. I think in the long run you maybe disappointed.

Is it worth it now?  Read a review.  NOPE.  Given time it MIGHT be worth it.  However, if you dont believe me... read the forums... and the reviews.

Hmm, well from what I've read some people love it, others hate it, and others just cant get over its gold version release..

I was more getting at if its worth getting / mostly finished now (i.e. 1.07)

I wish people would stop abusing words like 'great', 'beautiful', 'gorgeous', and 'awesome'. Elemental may be a good game, perhaps even very good, but there's no doubt it's not great. Which part of Elemental can inspire game developers ?

Elemental is a game from a practically extinct genre. It is perhaps good compared to its peers. But games like AoW:SM, Heroes of Might and Magic and especially Master of Magic appeared when there was big competition within the genre. MOM fought for the cult status it has. Elemental faces almost no competition.

Back to topic. I'm going to wait and see, I don't have money to spare anymore. Caution: Frogboy has said recently the first Elemental expansion won't be free for everyone, but only for people who buy the base game before certain (unannounced) date. So when the date is announced, that will be the final date to make the decision.

Fail more at reading comp. He did put (concept) after great game. That would imply its a great game concept not a great game....really is this stuff this hard for America's younger generations now days?

I'd wait. The first game or two is fun and you do get a good feel for what is going on. But then it just becomes the same old thing time after time.

The game has a lot of potential but I'd be waiting for Civ5 in the short term, then look back in a few months again.

Having said that, Frogboy has said that people who have bought the game early will get the first upgrade for free. So there may be some value buying now but not expecting much from it in the short term.

Not being from America I can't relate. I don't know what definition of a great concept you have, but Elemental's is not great. I see a couple of ideas lumped together, and what I heard before beta was more ambitious. Been there, done that, and better. Thanks for a personal attack, but I won't cooperate. Focus on points instead.

Hard to do when you didn't raise any valid points...

Well, 'worth getting' and 'mostly finished' are not really related, at least as far as the love/hate goes.

IMHO, the game is nowhere near 'mostly finished', but for some people here, they feel that it's still 'worth getting'.

I don't believe this however, I simply can't endorse a game as badly broken and flawed as Elemental still is even at 1.07.

Wait. It's lacking too many things to be worth buying today.

I'd wait. Elemental is a trainwreck right now and needs a humongous amount of attention before it gets better. Keep your money for now.

I would say that 1.07 on my Win 7 x64 Nvidia rig is playable and for a 4x junkie somewhat addictive.  Is the game still disappointing compared to what was envisioned, yes.  Is it less fun then Master of Magic, a game released almost 20 years ago, unfortunately yes.  Will it continue to get better over the course of the next year at least, yes.

So is it worth $50? I don't know of any game that is worth that, but that is what the market seems to support right now.  If you've already bought Starcraft and need a change of pace it might be worth a shot  :)

If you have to ask: it's not ready yet.

I'd say wait for a few patches, but be sure to pick it up before the 1.3 patch (Estimated for November I believe) so you can get the first expansion for free. :-P

Unless you actually want to contribute feedback based on your experience with the game to help determine how the game turns out at that point. In which case wait about week or two for them to get the technical problems solved and then get it.

All these replies and actually it is the first reply, that "hits the nail" (have no idea whether that saying can be used in English, but never mind, you probably get my drift).
