Where's the diplomacy options

I must be missing something,
Where's the Tech Trading?
Where's the Spell Trading?
Where's the offer to purchase a city?
But most of all, where's the ability to trade my first born for a 3nd level Earth spell because he randomly generated with 5 STR, 5 DEX, and 1 WIS, and the spell would be more useful... 
I love the game for as long as will let me play, bugs and all, but I do miss the diplomatic options from other games, like Gal Civ2...
