Favorite Factions?

And now, for something a little more positive, how about some discussion of the game factions?  I've found that I gravitate heavily towards Altair and Magnar.  The resource bonus for being Altair can make for a blistering fast start - Pioneer production constant from T1 and/or instant resource exploitation.  Magnar is superb for focusing on early research, which I love to do with the Empire tech tree.  I find myself picking those two factions with almost every single sovereign build that I try.

How about y'all?  Any factions you prefer?  If so, why?

(and yes, I'm all too aware that some faction traits are busted and don't function - but some do work!)

I personally like Pariden because they appear to be stuck up. Anytime I play against them they are always demanding gold from me and always cocky during diplomacy lol. I also like to play as Resoln because its always fun to be evil. I personally choose faction based on story/looks versus bonuses, thats just me though. Resoln is prolly the weakest with bonuses sadly.

I disagree: the extra HP makes armies better all around.  Shame their DEX is 8, though.  Just remember to always make your new units an upgrade from the Peasant, as the premades and 'New designs' aren't getting the boost.

Can't deny that compared to things like free longbows it seems to come up short.  But then, there's no disadvantages...

Definately my custom one :D

I love customization, and I love that Stardock made this game so customizeable, both through in-game editors and an extremely open design for easy modding.

There must be something wrong with those peasants, they are absurdly good. 39 hp per head with shock trooper? It's absurd! A couple of levels and a medic kit you are looking at hp in the 1000 range.

I play Umber (random chocie at start that I just stick with) and for them (with my playstyle) money is everything. I get darkling camps (and later some dogs) that mainly cost money. No need to design any soldiers then.
