Possible to create female units?

Was toying with designing my own spearmen in the campaign, and thought it might be neat to make a sort of valkyrie type female unit....only problem is I dont see any option to change gender. Am I missing it?

You have to play a faction with the Egalitarian trait. Personally I hate the fact that you have to spend a point for a purely visual benefit.

Bleh that is kind of pointless.

one point isn't much at all could just add it the ability to your faction in Xml if your cheap.

Though according to some, having egalitarian gives you a higher population cap for building units since you're drawing from the entire population. Would be nice to pick a gender (all male, all female) and then use the trait to get both available. Though the trait probably needs a little more to it.

It took me awhile to figure this out but if you do have the egalitarian trait in the design right above stats you'll see what look like undo arrows. Click that to change the structure of your unit. Eventually you'll get to a female set.

I looked in both the manual and the Faction creator, and as far as I can tell there's no extra benefit to the Egalitarian trait besides being able to design female troops (the manual doesn't even mention the word 'Egalitarian').  So if my wife (whom I bought this game for specifically because you can create female sovereigns and troops) wants to have an army of women, she has to pay an extra point.

That's just bad form.

it should give you a moral bonus, ideally it should give your kingdom a happiness bonus but the game is not that complicated like other tbs, where they have happiness for cities and cities can revolt

I agree, either Egalitarian should add some other benefit or drop the point cost.

Why are there apologists for every little thing? No, it's not being cheap. A purely visual/thematic effect should not cost points that are designed to balance gameplay.

The only "out of the box" Faction that has this is Tarth right?
