Secrete to retreating?

I've made some scouts and sometimes they get attacked. My intention is to retreat but I can't seem to.  I try and go to the left or right and it doesn't work. I try to go to the brighter mist and that doesn't work all the time (most of the time does).   But is there any button or any other action that needs to be done.

Secrete what, ink?

If there is a secret, I don't know it, as I've never tried. From what I understand you should be able to choose to retreat from once you reach the edge of the map, but there are a lot of unintuitive interface features, so I know it might take awhile to figure out what to click on after that.

From what it looks like to me there are glowing blue-white sections that you have to move the unit to, to retreat. However last battle I was in I could not retreat two units through the same square.... sigh.

East/West glow has been proven correct retreating procedure by my own experience.

The player cannot, however, retreat to the glow directly behind them ("south" of them).

This doesn't stop the NPCs from retreating from any glow they please (most notably their south glow/your north glow- directly behind them)

So yes, while you must retreat to only the SIDE of the map (with this being not at all intuitive) the AI can retreat anywhere they please.

If you have entered a glow, and you didn't automatically retreat, then you simply entered the WRONG glow. Also, only champions can retreat of course.

On the edge of them maps there are sections that glow more from what I've seen you can only retreat through those. I've been able to retreat with summons and champions, haven't tried with normal units though.

I've retreated once. The first that retreated made others panic and the enemy got enough free turns to kill them all. Luckily my sovereign made the cast a spell escape.
