The big fat "HELP ME" thread

The big fat "HELP ME" thread

Allright, I think I'm beginning to grasp most of Elemental, but there is still some things I can't figure out, and I need to know whether it is because I am missing something, or because the game is bugged. Therefore, I am creating this thread to allow people to ask questions about ingame things.

I'm starting out with these issues:

- Summoning. When I try to cast "Summon familiar" nothing happens. I have the correct amount mana - am I doing something wrong?

- Enchanting. Same goes with giant strength. Again, nothing happens.

- Food. Okay, so my cities can't grow without enough food, and there are no natural food resources nearby - what are my options?

Any suggestions?

I'm having trouble with the quests that are appearing. My character is level 4 or 5, but every place seem to have a different view of what level I am. A level 3 quest says I am level 1 and a level 2 quest lists me as level 2. Bug or am I missing something?

You need to research adventuring and select the quest option, you basically have to level your questing up to level 2 or three.

I'm in the campaign, started pre patch and now after patch I'm stuck. The queen of Cono gave me permission to go through the barricade to Gilden but when I get my guys to the barricade I can't right click on the ground beyond the barrier. I can't find any other place to go to get to Gilden. Is this bugged?

any  help? I go to the barricade a little south and west of her city where I got the initial "you can't cross" message but it won't let me go past it. I can't find this Gilden area anywhere on the map because of it.

I can't even build _farms_. I start near a fertile land and go into build from my starter city, no option to create a farm. Try getting anywhere with _that_ bug.

This game is desperately in need of a tutorial. :(

Safid,

click on the ressource tile to build on it. It's not in the city menu because they don't have to be inside city limits, only kingdom border.

Yes, all your resources are shared between all your cities, but you may need certain techs to exploit some of those resource tiles.

Shore Hexes for Harbors

I use to be able to create a shore hex in the Beta with the lower land spell, can't get this to work in the release version. The Raise land spell creates new land but, not a shore hex?

How do you create more Caravans? I know there is a technology that allows you to do so, Merchant Guilds or something like that, I had it in a previous game. It hasn't shown up in this game though, and I don't remember whether it's part of Diplomacy or Civilization.

if you have the technology then you can recruit them from any city just like other units. there is a limit per city though. bring up the "city information book" by clicking on the more botton in the city's resources tab. the available caravans are listes there.

edit: maybe you'll need to build some city improvements too but i don't think so.

People should at least skim the thread through, before asking questions. I've seen the same question asked and answered at least 3-4 times now, in 5 pages. (How do I build on resources?)

I don't have the technology. My question is: What is the technology that allows you to build more caravans? What tree is it in?

Can anyone help with my technology question for what unlocks the ability to have more caravans?

Cooperation/Diplomacy unlocks it

I think trade -> advanced trade is what you want.  Not sure if there are further techs though.

What's the Scion's story? I though there was supposed to be more to them than a role as an overpriced peasant...

And speaking of peasants, what's the deal with fallen peasants having 13 hp? Upgrading units from the peasant chassis is an abusively powerful result.

A lot has changed in the last couple of patches, so the sion (typo'd in game, I think, instead of scion) question may be moot.  In 1.05.16 they have a crushing blow ability, sprint, and can't be targeted by hostile spells.  Unfortunately the info pages on all the monsters and units are missing just about any useful info other than base melee stats. :annoyed:

As for the peasants.. I wish it was more clearly laid out as a feature rather than an exploit (like a 'pick race' option on the build screen), but there are pros and cons to building units from the.. trogs?  I dunno, I can't find a decent reference on which race is which.  Anyway: the big grey guys have 13 Con/hp and about a 10%/+1 attack bonus, but also have about a -15-20%/-1-2 defense penalty and a hefty speed penalty, so they hit harder and can take more damage at the expense of getting hit harder and more often and attacking less often.  Seems reasonable to me, and in fact in my current game I've found the HP bonus just doesn't outweigh the speed and armor penalty, especially once you start building teams.

Is there any way to comfortably set up how units are being initially placed on the tactical combat field?

Screenshots should be under "My Documents/My Games/Elemental/Screenshots". That's where a lot of important data is kept and also integral to modding.

This information should be added to the FAQ linked in the original post.
