Colony ship is much more expensive, and takes more than 3 times the fleet supply. So it still is by far the worst unit at combat, both for their price and logistics. Thus, don't build a fleet of them to attack with except as a joke or a forfeit.

Scouts rip up colony ships.  1v1 the colony ship will win, but cost-wise there are many more scouts to a colony ship.

After doing a conversion for metal and crystal, a TEC colony ship costs 1125 credits, while a TEC scout costs a mere 200 credits.  In other words, cost-wise you can afford about 5 scouts to every one colony frigate.  Even after their damage nerf in 1.19, scouts are still pretty formidable when pointed against non-combat units like the colony frigate or siege frigate.

if it makes you feel better scouts actually do 24 damage every 8 seconds vs 28 damage every 7 seconds for colony ships

I only use colony ships for fighting battles.

I just love to hear the screams of all those stupid colonists.

Fleet them up, add some sound recorders, a few vidcams, and you have a very entertaining movie.
