Pre-Loading and Unlocking

I'd think that Elemental would be available for preload when it's ready, but is there any ETA for that to happen?

And if there is a pre-load, is there a universal unlock time for the game? Or will it be based off your timezone?

Whether or not there's a pre-load probably depends on when they get the day0 build ready. If there is one, it'll unlock for everyone whenever they push the button on the 24th. It's not going to be based on region.

Does Impulse support preload now?

Certainly does! They've had it in place since the Mass Effect 2 launch.

Oh cool.

Stardock has to decide to offer the game as a preload and I don't know if they are doing that or not (though that would be great, of course).  From what I've observed of them in the past and just from a common sense POV, setting up elemental to allow customers to preload requires some development work - the preload version which we couldn't play until some sort of "unlock" occurs would be different than the release version "already unlocked."  I'd think that as elemental is their baby, we'll see a preload for this game as that's a very nice feature for their customers that preordered the game.  Hopefully someone from SD chimes in here, though.

Well, I was just curious. And I definitely would pre-order if I knew there'd be a preload. But if I'm going to be stuck downloading as soon as the game releases, then I don't see a serious incentive to pre-order.

A pre-load option would be fantastic! I suppose they could give us everything but the core files, for example, so when the day does come we only have to download a little to make the game fully operational.

Based on this post, it looks like the day 0 version will be ready late next week. They could stage that for pre-load a day or two before release (since it's ready on a friday, might not be up until monday).

Well, this is my first Impulse game, so I hope its faster then Steam. Steam almost never downloads at full speed.

I tend to get much faster (and more consistent) speeds with Impulse than Steam.

Thanks for the info, I hope that it will be the same for me.

Frogboy said they'll be finishing the Day 0 release on Friday (possibly late night). I'd love to get it on the 21st or 20th but it sounds like that isn't happening :(

I'm still championing for an early release - for Gold, at least. Call it Beta 5 if you must, it's close enough for me. I just want to make sure there are no terrible bugs still left :/

*Bump*

Any news on when the preload goes up?

Tomorrow.

Beta testers get it early tomorrow, Pre-orders get it midday tomorrow. Everyone else Tuesday.

Be sure and give US Beta testers about 12 hours head start on just old preorders please. ;)) We should get first say on how the game is.
