Why is Elemental on Steam?

I thought Stardock and Valve (or at least Impulse and Steam) were competitors. But earlier today I found Elemental on Steam for 10% off.

Personally, I call fake. Cannot find evidence of this anywhere and I'd be surprised if Steam carried it.

However, I do know that Impulse::Reactor is platform independent and could be sold on Steam without an issue. If this is real (timestamp would have been better, as would a link) then Stardock is probably trying to show how it can be sold "anywhere" and to get a few more sales. Steam is already pretty saturated.

I agree that its most likely fake. I was unable to find any mention of it being available on Steam in Steam forums, Google cache etc.

Either a fake, somebody at Valve having some fun, or a very, very bizzare announcement is going to be made.

For my money, it's not the third one. :P

Nope, it's not there...someone's pulling some dickery around here!!! :P

Fortunately Steam allows you to add non-Steam games, so you can still imagine you bought it there (minus the 10% off).

Why on earth would you want to do that? So you can run a 3rd party app to play a game that doesn't even require it?

For the chat functionality without alt-tabbing, handy for multiplayer once you finish your turn.

"Thanks Jim, breaking news this hour: Notorious space criminal 'TheProgress' has made a daring escape today from an Intergalactic Prison located in orbit around Uranus. Sources say that it was his buttplug that allowed him to escape. Apparently it was composed of an explosive compound, allowing the prisoner to breach his cell, kill several guards and steal a docked shuttle. No word from the International Galactic Crime Squad at this time but they are without a doubt embarrassed by these recent turn of events. Back to you Jim."

Except Impulse::Reactor has the same features, and it doesn't require an unnecissary app running in the background.

If the people you want to talk to are on Steam, being able to talk on Steam is going to be more valuable then being able to talk on Reactor.

Except my friends are on Steam, not Impulse, and running an app in the background doesn't worry me and I'm not sure why it should.

Considering the size of my steam library, and the fact that when I try to buy Dragon Age on Impulse it tells me "Sorry, this item is not available in your region.", it isn't exactly worth making the switch.  And I don't need to anyway, because I'm assuming I can run both at the same time...

Ahh but Tridus, you have forgotten that people who use Steam are beneath notice and certainly not worth talking to :P

Much better to talk to yourself on Reactor.

Heh thanks. Noticed a typo I made: should have said "breach his cell" rather than just "breach".
