Easier to read font?
Is there any chance of Stardock offering an easier to read font than the one that is currently being used in the beta - at least as an alternative?
Thanks for your time and consideration.

Is this aspect of the game MODable in case Stardock isn't overwhelmed with the customer response to this request? LOL I'd really hate to have such a cool game rendered virtually unplayable to me because I have trouble reading the text? =(
Are you able to provide a screenshot showing the bad font in use?
Perhaps it is a rendering issue.
The readability of some of the text is awful. For me, it's where you use what seems to be Times New Roman (seriously!?). This font has plagued my existence since I can remember and makes me vomit (I'm a web designer).
Such as here.
The part under the "Warfare" heading - The soldiers of the Gilden army are fearless... - is barely passable since it seems to use a faux bold effect.
The part under "Logisitics" though, makes me shudder. Hurts my eyes just looking at it. I understand you may not want to use a more contemporary font to keep with the fantasy theme, but TNR is just awful. I'd prefer a DIN or a Frutiger but I also understand that you may have it set up so that the user must have the font on their system. At least use Arial or Verdana - anything! Or better yet, let us choose a font from our system to use.
It's an eye-sore to me, and really bugs me while playing the game.
Sacred 2 (an RPG game from Ascaron) had the same problem. I couldn't even identify the horrific font they used, but an unofficial tool was released that allowed players to select a font from their system, making the game bearable.
EDIT: The main headings are fine because they use the small-caps text-transform. TNR falls apart when you use lower-case letters.
Times New Roman definitely has to go ![]()
I don't think it's Times New Roman, it's a Serif font, forgot which one.
In the above picture, the part under Warfare was mediocre, but underneath Logistics was just awful.
hehe, yea the description under Logistics was pretty bad :p
That being said, I kinda liked the font under "Warfare."
Find something that has a nice "Old English" or "Gothic" feel to it. I think that would fit nicely. Then (maybe) find one a bit eviler looking and use it for the Empire factions. Might be cool.
I'm embarassed to admit that I have never learned how to host images online to display in forums, etc. However, the link that Heart Shaped Man was kind enough to provide illustrates my problem. As he stated, it is the text under the "Logistics" header that is really bad for me. When I am playing, the bad text shows up in a LOT of places though, for example when you try to read the biographies of the pre-made characters, etc. It does always seem to occur where lower case text is used as he stated however.
The problem is greatly exagerated for me because I am slightly near-sighted and playing on a 42" monitor that is just far enough away from the monitor that my near-sightedness kicks in (about 3' away) - I really struggle to read that font even with my glasses on. Although I admit my own sight problems are the reason this problem is so bad for me, I have never had any other game give me anywhere near this much trouble reading text in games.
I will see if I can get a screen shot and figure out how to post it here just in case the problem is somehow a rendering problem as you suggest.
Thank you so much Stardock for caring enough and taking the time to at least inquire about my problem. I have never known another game company that seems to care about its customers they way you do, and I will remain a loyal customer of yours for as long as you continue to support your customers the way you always have! ![]()
Ok, I tried to use the printscreen button to get a screen shot - but for some reason it always dumps a totally black screen (no screen shot). In other programs and on the desktop, the printscreen button works fine on my computer for providing screenshots - so I'm not sure why it fails in Elemental?
So I will attempt to DESCRIBE the worst areas of text for me to read:
A great example is the tooltips that pop up in the lower right corner of the UI: for example when you mouse over a terrtain feature on the map. The background in these dialog boxes is kinda grey, the font itself is very jagged and prints black, but the text also has like a faint white/grey "aura" around the letters? The combination of jagged font and the additional contrast problems created by the background and text color and that white aura effect surrounding (and blurring) the letters all combine together to make those areas VERY difficult for me to read.
Also, some of the text in lower case (especially where the font displays smaller than other places) is also somewhat difficult to read even though the contrast problems do not occur there.
I hope this helps?
Why is text "The soldiers..." has cool antialiasing and logistic description hasn't?
