Yeah, the brigands kinda comes fast at you in large numbers during NORMAL difficulty. I was totally left unprepaired. I lost my secondary city and need to build an army FAST!
UPDATE: Early in my newest game I left my city for ONE TURN and was ONE SPACE away. A bandit party with HUGE attack values came out and destroyed it right before my eyes. It was aweful...

These bandits need to tone it down a bit in the beginning of a 'normal' game.
The brigands actually do something? I've seen some brigands loitering around towns, but they won't actually attack. Actually, nothing attacks my towns. Nor units, really ![]()
i got attacked many times even if i had a few time s when they just stood still
i think the ai is made so they attack only when towns are with very few defenses (they attacked me only when i had fewscouts/peasants)
maybe they should be more courageos, they are pretty strong after all
But I don't defend my towns. No points, since they don't get attacked. I just see brigands pass by my empty towns/towns with a single weak unit.
Btw, what's with the absurd variations in brigand health/damage? I see groups with most having 5 or 10 life and little damage, then there's one with 20+ life and ~15 damage. It's really annoying, since they all look the same and have the same name..
tha named has 20 hp and 10+ dmg and there are a couple more nearly as strong
one is archer too
btw i tried again
they definitely do attack cities, dunno why you dont have the smae
I haven't had a brigand assault on a town yet (I build defense units ASAP and don't build a second town very quickly at all).
The fun thing I did see in .98 was when I lost a recruited champion who was alone on a long-range auto-move to my capital.
Brigands are pretty nasty now. I am having a problem keeping hold of new settlements because of them. They might be a little too tough or maybe there are too many. I have gotten hit on all fronts by brigand bands.
I kinda like how they're keeping me cautious even with the difficulty set on Normal. Seems like an 'organic' way to help avoid the colony rush problem, or at least the start of a good way to avoid that.
On the Startling Observation Channel, I just saw a brigand that had Essence. The Details UI gave no hint of whether the bugger knew any spells, but he appeared to have potential as a hedge wizard on top of quite formidable physical combat power.
I built a town right next to a brigand and left it undefended for at least 20 turns. It's still there.
Matter of fact I don' t think I've lost a single settlement by any means in the last two beta versions and I rarely ever build garrisons besides in my capital or a super resource producer.
