Beta 3 issues / suggestions ...

I am having a hard time trying to use research without being able to see a full research tree. Will this be included in the manual? How do I plan my endgame if I can't see what options are available to me ?

Also it would be nice to see what I have researched and what it unlocked, and make that viewable at any time not just one time when its unlocked.

Unit design is very, very, very, very confusing , I know I want archers , and I need archers , so I eventually research bows, and then they can be created. But What other units can I create? Knights? Scouts? Mounted units? Wizrds? There needs to be more clarity and pre-defined units ( gray them out and tell me what I need to research to unlock them). Leave the options to tweak them with new weapons , clothes , armor.

Its hard to find farmland, on average if I have 3 cities, 1 has a farm... And no other farm land is availible. Perhaps every city should have default food income, and farm land would create a huge bonus?  Perhaps I am not supposed to have large cities?

Equiping my hero unit with gear I have bought is confusing and it needs to be made simpler , perhaps have a tab in the good shop that shows what I own and or am wearing? The first time I bought gear for my character , where did it go? I wasn't even sure I had purchased it other than the fact that the coin was deducted from my bank.

Tactical battles don't seem to be working for me, I fight other units and it NEVER goes into tactical mode. I've literally seen 1 tactical battle in my last 4 games.

Trade roads connecting towns look horrible, they don't show me what they are doing ( put a +5 over the road to show increased income ?) and they are not linking up correctly to the next town.  Also if you expand your town you are building over the road and it looks all messed up under the new buildings tile set.

Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong, regarding my issues above, are welcome :)

Agree, but I would prefer to have that ingame. BTW, while startup of Empire from Impulse I get a splash screen where I cen open the manual. But I only checked it once screening shortly through it.

In the research view in the bottom right there is a button 'Complete'. This shows all completed research

I never had troubles to find enough fertile land to build farms, but if this is really an issue, I think there was a spell for the Sov to create additional fertile lands by using up 1 Essence. At least, in one of the previous betas there was that option

There is a treshhold within the game - if your or the opposite army is certainly larger/stronger than yours, the battle is automatically calculated.

In the City details the incoming from the traderoutes are shown.

This are only general remarks, with most of your commets I agree and it shows that weaknesses of the 'not-so-user-friendly' GUI

You can create whatever you want to create. In beta 4, the AI will make some units for you. The rest isn't molded, you design it from scratch. If you want a cavalry knight, give the unit a mount and heavy armor, and call it a knight.

Food is supposed to be rare. You're supposed to have large cities, but you're also meant to be smart about where you place them. Find fertile land, or make it with spells :P

There's a threshold setting in the options. The default is at 4 or 5, meaning if there are less than that number of units involved, the battle will auto-resolve.
