How do I collect Artifacts I find?

I did a search on this just now and came up with nothing that specific.  Just descriptions of what artifacts do and what not.

However, my problem is, I have no idea how to collect them to begin with.  Im playing a big 1 v 1 game with my brother and theres hundreds of planets and several stars. We have rules set so we cannot actually kill eachothers home planet, etc, so the game is dozens of hours long.  Anyways, throughout this game ive done alot of "Exploring" of planets, and then the guy is like "They've discovered an artifact on your planet!" (the in-game voice that talks to you). And I go to the planet and read what it does, but then I look at my "Artifacts" list in my UI and still all blank.  I look around the planet that found it and highlight all the buttons but cannot find anything about actually collecting this artifact into my list of artifacts.  They're all just blank still stating I've not discovered any yet.  But im positive I found an artifact because the planets Notifications list on the far left of the lower UI bar when the planet is selected shows that they discovered an artifact on that planet.

So what gives?  maybe im looking at them the wrong way, please help!

Yeah, you don't have to do anything to "collect" an artifact. Once you discover one, it should show up on that planet and you can get its benefits immediately. It should show up in the research UI as well. Depending on what artifact it was, you might be able to check if its effects are active in game anyways (data archive is easy, if you research costs are lower than they should be, then it is working).

It may be that you're confusing a planetary bonus for an artifact if you don't see any in the Artifact list in the research window.

If you find an artifact and not merely a planet bonus you should see a yellow ^ carrot (or some symbol like that) near the planet icon and it should show up in your artifacts research tree.  The artifacts cannot be moved.  Whoever owns the planet possesses it.
