Units equipped with more than more type of weapon?

Does anyone know if you can equip your units with more than one type of weapon? For example a soldier with a sword and a bow or a knight with a spear and a sword?

How will it affect stats if this is the case? And how does it work with heroes?

If you cannot equip your guys with more than one type of weapon it would be cool if it was implemented post release / in an expansion of course with some kinds of negative effect. Strength traded for flexibility.

I remember reading Frogboy somewhere stating that you can equip multiple weapons on your troops, but he never specified wether or not it was one ranged and one melee or if it was any combination of weapons.

if dual wield is possible, second weapon should be less effective (half the attack value or something)

that would make using a defensive weapon give u more bang for ur buck
