White dots and mipmaps

what mipmap settings are best

Hi all, just a bit of a question regarding those annoying little white dots.

Now I read on another post about these pesky little varmint's being a result of graphics, better card then better performance and less white dots and certain settings then less white dots. I'm not arguing with that point, I just want to make the best of what I've got.

With the 3 new ships I have added they have more white dots than the original sins ships, not much but noticeable. So this leads me to believe that it is something that I have done that is not quite up to scratch. Another thing I have noticed is that these white dots only appear at certain zoom levels. So I'm thinking maybee it is something to do with the way I have done the mipmap's on the textures.

Could this be the case? If so what settings are desirable?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree, and its something completely different?

do they go away if you turn anti-alising off?

I read somewhere about how to get rid of that... but I forget where, maybe the tech forum?

Found the post, thanks. It would seem that these artifacts are appearing around polygon edge's, which explains a lot to me as to why my ships have more than the original Sins ships. Especially in areas where there are high polygon numbers, like cylindrical bends, sphere's and the like. And that's probably same reason why the are most noticeable on asteroids.

My mind is at ease over mipmap's being the cause, or anything that I have done wrong with them. Though like many people I wonder what does cause them. Maybe its just the way the mesh file is optimized upon conversion or something like that.

Thanks for your help.
