Diplomacy tutorial or guide?

Was there any tutorial or guide released with Diplomacy? I know there's a diplomacy manual, but it has as much information as a starved chicken living on an iceberg.

Seriously? No guidelines on what to do, each tech and its usefullness, etc? Just gotta figure it out?

I agree that there should be some kind of guide as I have plenty of questions about the content as well, hopefully someone already wrote a guide and posted it online.
