Show off your Sins model (pick a page)

Think of this thread as something similar to conceptships.blogspot.com for the Sins community. Basically, a way for the community to share what they have created whether it makes it into a mod or not.

At a minimum post a screen shot of your model in blender, xsi, 3d object converter, etc or in game. If you have a name for your ship or story behind it, even better.

We are looking forward to seeing what you have created! :)

Visit http://soase.weebly.com/modeling.html (thanks myfist0)
The soase.weebly is a compilation of many of the hard to find topics created by many experienced soase modders and extensively added to by myfist0. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

From the beginning of this thread IskatuMesk has wow'd us with his models and ultimately released a video of his creations in Sins of a Solar Empire. This particular model was my favorite in the beginning and still stands out.

SivCorp looking to stretch new ideas from existing models managed to create several menancing models including the fantastic Vasari version seen here: (Vasari Flagship Sonar Kal'd used in the Distant Stars Mod)

It's my thread so a few of my stuff...

At least we would know what to expect from a candidate for once.

Okay, we need new ships. Anybody?

Here is what i call the cobra its a destroyer and will be a tec capitalship ^^

the only problem is i am having a dastardly time of texturing this thing properly any suggestions??

i would like it to look like the rest o the tech ships >_< oh well tell me what you think

We're going to need guns...lots of guns.

Not bad. The style makes me think of either Warhammer 40K or the pirate battleship in the OP. Giving it a texture that matches the other ships might require some studying or even duplication of mesh components from the originals. So I take it this beast would fit a role close to the Kol? Any particular differences?

yea this one has more fighters than the koal as well as the advent's battleship's level 6 ability and it its loosely based off the warhammer ships

Then I'm spot on. Yay for me.

I am not really satisfied with it, it has sort of a "steam punk" feel to it if you asked me. This was much more apparent when the rust on the sides was brown. In order to minimize this effect I just made it gray instead. Please do critique.

I don't think it looks overly steam punkish, but I can see what you mean with the turrets, given their style in comparison to the overall model. I think it's more of a Homeworld/Genesis Rising fusion. I like the overall beast as it is, especially in the gray. I can see where the rust brown would put you off. Depending on the level of tech you're looking to give them, you might reconsider the weapon designs. Still, I think it looks cool, granted I picture it being of a larger scope, like a mothership, space station, or Titan. It looks lumbering to me.

I actually like the gun detail.  I think all that's missing overall is some distinctiveness--maybe more antennae or something giving it a little more scifi feel? or a little less "unipiece" feel to the hull.

Seems like maybe something on pylons coming out of the sides would fit--engines, armor, launch bays?

I pictured it as a capitalship. I originally wanted it to have the UNSC (Halo) style of being primitive industrial "we use it because it works, and by it works we mean it kicks ass" look.

I think I am going to redo the texture, the paneled texture that I used seems to detract from the advanced look of it. I think it would look fine if it used a texture that looked more smooth instead of "industrial sheet metal with rust" look. Come to think of it, would there even be rust in space? I had zero intent for this ship to be fitted for atmosphere.

You wouldn't have rust but you would have particle abrasions, scratches and gouges, pitting--from orbital debris--and scorching and dis-colorization from propellants and heat.

There is a small chance of some oxidation around nozzles as a result of the metal interacting with the oxygen in the propellant but "rust" on a hull exterior in space is probably not going to happen.

Maybe in your texture--show some superficial battle damage...might help a lot

Yeah, rust can happen inside a ship, but virtually not at all on the outside unless it docks or enters some form of atmosphere. By the time any rust would be apparent, the ship would be long since retired. And the nozzle depends on the propulsion of the weapon. Energy weapons would suffer burns. Magenetic weapons would have abrasions from sand deionization. Chemical propellents would do like Sin said, although much slower than on Earth and barrels might be parkerized or some such to reduce said rust.

I like the idea of going more advanced, but I still like the ship.

Here is ship I have been working on lately. Still needs a bit of work with the textures to fix a few mistakes and tidy up few seams. Haven't really thought about where to use it yet, its quite high poly with 29000 tri's, but it optimized pretty nicely to about 6k file size. Will worry about that after its completed.

sz0 if you want to show the pictures from a dropbox, then drop them in the PUBLIC  section not the pictures section(which is private and is NOT accessable to people that do NOT have your username/password combo.

Woops! thanks harpo. I didn't realize. Everything looks good from my end lol!

SZ0 -that's a nice ship.  Whatever texture issues there might be, I'm not seeing them, but I don't have a trained eye.  It pees all over the floor and tears up couch cushion.

Nice looking ship... Looks similar in shape to a previous model you did. Looks pretty mean looking from the front.

Makes me think Advent/TEC hybrid or a shp for Brainiac. Nice. Which reminds me, we need to consider putting hybrids into the DS diplo tree. Would be nice to expand on that.

First time showing off my models here. Be gentle ;)

This is a Viscount Star Defender from the Star Wars universe. It is a 17 km Behemoth serving in the New Republic navy.

It is going to be in the Sins of a Galactic Empire mod

Awesome. I've always wondered what a Viscount looked like. The Mon Cal ships are probably some of the harder ones I'd imagine too.

And here's another model of yours, and my first attempt at texturing something. Its a bastard child certainly but it is enjoying its first minutes of life.

This is how it will look most of the time, safely wrapped in phase space, menacingly observing all around it.

This is a fun thing to rig, with it's hundreds of meshpoints. :v

It looks amazing in XSI, can't wait until it's actually ingame.
