If they brought Joss Whedon's Firefly back and started making new episodes, would you watch?

Lets try and get as many votes as possible and maybe we can actually get it back! =D

Firefly was a love it or hate it show which I loved! I think the Serenity movie did a great job of revealing a second seasons worth of exposition. I think if Whedon had more to say about the story he would make more episodes or movies. But my guess is that the movie Serenity was ment to be the bookend to the Firefly 'verse.

alas, but I suspect your right.

all I want is some new sci fi...and by that I mean sci fi with spaceships in at the very least...

and I have already watched all of BSG, liked season 1 and 2, season 3 and most of 4 was lame however.

On the topic of new Sci-fi stories, I'd like to see a movie adaptation of Old Man's War. That would be pretty awesome.
Or possibly an adaptation of A Talent for War.

Back in '04, Sci-Fi put out some buzz about a possible Ringworld miniseries, but I haven't seen anything happen in that regard. It would be awesome if they could do a treatment of the full four Ringworld volumes that was as good as what John Harrison did with the original Dune trilogy.

They are apparently doing something to try to make up for the travesty of a pilot for a Riverworld series that aired back in '01, but even with Tahmoh Penikett in the cast, I'm pretty sure it will end up mediocre at beast on account of them being afraid of using one of the key strengths of the series, real, controversial historical figures resurrected into a science fiction afterlife.

you know they were going to make a Halo movie that went belly up because of some silly bickering about something or other...

They made a TV series of dune? I have to see that!

Apart from the lovely Jewel and Morena, Adam Balwin IMO was the best part of the whole series. My favorite quote being:

"Do you know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with to show you who's in command."

He's also just as great in Chuck.

If the show would return with the original cast I'd probably watch it. Even though Whedon drew a really nice final line under it with Serenity. But it's not gonna happen anyway.

It's actually two miniseries that cover the three original books. You can rent it from Netflix. William Hurt plays Duke Leto, lots of other good casting, overall far superior to David Lynch's 1984 film.

i saw it in three movies? as opposed to a mini-series...

Never heard of it.

As long as Whedon was calling the shots for it, heck yeah.  I think you'd have a hard time replacing that cast though.

I had the perfect closure move script for the final movie but sadly no one ever called me for my idea ;)

I think it's far more likely that they'd make another movie but even that's probably not going to happen.  It's a shame too cause the cast really worked well together; far more so than most shows.  I bought the movie on a whim after a coworker got me into BSG and was extremely impressed (by the by, the gag reel or whatever they called it was great).  Not two weeks ago I bought the one and only season on dvd and now I'm hooked.  It was pretty depressing though watching all the episodes knowing that it was gonna end so abruptly.  Bring it back!

I know this thread was technically necroed, but yes, I'd watch.  Serenity's kill-off of the pilot (I forget his name too...) was JUST enough to justify a few major changes to the series, while keeping it the Firefly we all loved.

My bad.  It wasn't too far down the off topic list and it caught my eye.  Kinda fitting though isn't it?

Meh.  Only a couple months, wasn't the worst necro ever.^_^ I've done much worst.  (Almost a year old thread...Something about Sovas being worthless, way back when only Vanilla sins was out.

meh - less than 2 weeks... all probably reavers... not necroed.

I just wish some tv or movie exec would necro the show and then I'll be shiny.

Agreed, we need Jayne back.

Offtopic: I saw Full Metal Jacket recently, and was surprised when I saw Adam Baldwin was in it.  I wasn't surprised when I found out he was playing a big dumb lug known as Animal Mother.

The two Dune miniseries I'm talking about are from 2000 and 2003. As far as I know, no one has released a theatrical film version of Dune Messiah or Children of Dune, but I'd love to find something that still isn't mentioned in the wikipedia. Any chance you remember a director or actor's name?

I'd rather see Joss live a long and ridiculously overcompensated life so he can 'start again' when the original acting ensemble are all old enough that re-casting them is a patently silly idea. But that's mostly because the chance of reassembling that ensemble seems vanishingly small. "Some tv or movie exec" would not do, but if Joss could pull both financing and casting rabbits out of his hat...shiny indeed.

yes.

new episodes with a "new" crew might be interesting, especially if the "old" crew didn't or couldn't return. Perhaps start the new series closer to the end of the war?   Or for new audiences you could pickup after the movie, with new actors in the roles and go from there.

I like the second idea better, but it is just my opinion.

Also, you could have "cameo's" or guest star options for the "original" crew to come back here and there.

You think?  Personally, I can't think of any break out roles that any of them have had since that would make it a financial issue.  Also from what I've seen of the special features they all seemed to genuinely embrace their roles.  Another season seems to be unlikely but another movie might not be out of the question.

I know it had Patrick Stewart and Sting...

Here's what i found on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_(film)

I've seen that one a few times. The cast is generally impressive, the effects were solid for the '80s, and I really liked the sets and costumes. But Lynch's version of the Harkonnens are a pathetic charicature made campy by casting Sting as Feyd. The miniseries takes liberties with the story from the novel also, but I like it much better.

Movies are all we can hope for at this point, unless they do a remake of the first season(Won't happen for another 20 years if at all) then keep goiong like BSG.

firefly was dull, had worse storylines then BSG, and stargate was better. i hope the fire in the fly has burnt out.
