CHEATS!!!!!

Yes, they're finally here: cheat codes. I've located a fair number of them, and should have many more after lunch. Please don't hesitate to add in any you happen to find. There's no special trick to activating them, just press the key combination to get the desired results.

  • Ctr+U: Clear FOW over the enitre map.
  • Ctr+L: Brings up lighting controls that do absolutely nothing as of yet.
  • Ctr+R: Researches everything except for techs whose names begin with "Refined"(?!)
  • Ctr+D: Deselects everything
  • Ctr+J: Instrantly trains all units pending for selected city.
  • Ctr+T: Teleports selected unit to cursor
  • Ctr+K: Destroys selected city (doesn't work for units).
  • Ctr+X: Makes the UI disappear or reappear
  • Ctr+B: Instantly constructs all improvements in selected city.

I wonder how many of these are just in here for developer convenience and will make it into the final game. Some of these, like research all techs, sounds like an easy way for the developers to balance endgame without necessarily playing through the beggining/middle first.

In GC2, the cheats were in the final game (albiet requiring a "cheat" shortcut parameter). I'm assuming that the same will hold true here.

I have always wondered how cheats were programed in. Anyone from Stardock care to elaborate?

Programmers put them in to make testing easier ozu

I have always wondered how cheats were programed in.

Same as any other command in the game, there's not really anything special about cheats code-wise.

This game needs a Ctrl+W a la The Secret of Monkey Island.:P

Please remove all cheats abilities before the game is released. No one should be able to cheat to win. ;))~~

Replying mainly so I can find this list again easily; several look very handy for puttering with the betas.

I've never looked into the GC2 cheats. Do they also use prime keyboard real estate like the current list for Elemental

I'm kinda hoping that Elemental might put keyboard support on the list of things to seriously improve over GC2, enough so that a CTRL+OtherKey list would be full of normal game commands. Strong keyboard support helps improve accessibility for some disabled players and can help folks who can touch-type save large amounts of mouse work.

They're similar, yes.

They're similar, yes.

The URL there sums up the problem. Keyboard shortcuts should be primary features, not the little sibling of cheat codes.

Well, I've been pressing buttons all over the board, but it seems as though as of now there are no more cheats to be found...........

bump! these work with beta 4. you have to add cheat to the shortcut of elemental.exe

EG. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Elemental\Elemental.exe" cheat

whats the one to clone to unit you have selected seen brad use that one.

I guess key combinations are much easier than constantly string-parsing everything that is typed to see if a cheat is entered. :D

I feel like the 'deselect' hotkey should be a feature. >_>;   like not a cheat at all since it didn't really DO anything.

Replying and bumping so i can find it on the 24th. :)

Often, you want to do something specific, not generic.

Ctrl+c for cloning.

Cheats don't work any more . was there an update that removed them?

Well they're probably inactive due to the fact that they were for developer convenience, now that they have moved on to working on a higher build they have no reason to keep them active. Besides, cheats kinda ruin the game for me.

They were working just a few days a go. The game hasn't updated since then.

They cheat because they lack the maturity for facing any real challenges which only weakens their strategic gameplay in the longterm.  Many are perfectly comfortable reloading a saved game over and over to win important battles or change a random event... those poor computer opponents never had a chance.  There was lots of crying on the Dominions_3 forum because their is no reloading option inside the game after the battles... thus some gamers would lose an important battle and instead of trying to recover they'd just  quit.  One of the biggest problems in multiplayer is when someone ditches a game once they start losing... I guess it's just a sign only a few people have the devotion to be real leaders.

actually I just like to see all the world map which is the ONLY cheat that I use.
