Trade Good Confusion!

I don't think I follow the concept of leasing so I'm going to ask this question. If I 'invent' Ultra-spices, and then give it to the Torians in exchange for 100 bc/10 months, do I get it back at the end of the 10 months? Do I lose it?

Thanks.

once you sell a trade good, its gone forever- the 100bc/10 months is simply their payment plan.. btw,
that price seems very low...

One more thing- leasing in general is only referring to the purchasing of something. For example, when you try to buy a battlecruiser on Earth that has 4 months remaing, you can either pay a flat sum now, or pay some now and pay x amound for y years- the latter is leasing the battlecruiser.

OK. I understand the concept of leasing on the planets, but I read something about leasing trade goods in the manual and that is what confused me. As for the 1000 bc selling of a trade good, that was only an example! ;p

It's not gone forever... You cant re-sell it to that civ. You still have the trade good, you still reap its benefits. You can sell that tradegood to every race, get a LOT of money, then every race reaps the benefit of the good, including you.

Same goes if you buy a trade good from the AI. You now reap the benefits, forever.

I personally only trade/sell trade goods to minors. As they are, well, minor and never really a threat.

Trade goods arent like UNIX where some company like SCO can revoke your rights unilaterally for doing something with it you dont like.

When you sell the trade good, you in a sense sell an irrevocable license to use that tradegood. (I say license, because the buyers in question cannot turn around and sell it themselves).

You still maintain the benefits of said tradegood no matter what. Unless of course your civilization dies or the planet you built the trade good with falls (although I could be wrong on that one)

idleprocess, you cannot sell a trade good multiple times- once you sell it, its gone. Hmm- I was under the impression that once you had sold it, you lost the benefits of it as well.

You can't sell it multiple times to the same race. You can sell it to each race only once. And you never lose the benefits no matter who you sell it to.

:D Geek!

If SCO says IBM or Redhat or whoever has stolen proprietary code and implemented it in Linux or AIX... Why doesn't SCO just point it out? No matter what happens, all these Linux geeks are just going to adapt whatever 'code snippets' are infringments... blah blah blah. :)

It would be nice if you could easily tell what trade goods are in your possession either by your own manufacturing or trade.

The only quick way right now is to see what is or isn't being offered under Diplomacy. Or, am I missing something?

I was hoping for the same thing. A list of trade goods I control and the ones I have due to purchasing.

Airwreck, no, you're not missing anything here. For some inconceivable reason, Stardock made it impossible to tell what TGs you have, and rather awkward to see what techs you have. These are some of the things I hope to see fixed in the UI improvments of the expansion.

I hope this is improved as well :)

OK. I tried it out. That is exactly how it works. Now my extortion technique works even better! The power of money!! Thanks everyone for helping with the question! :D

What's so awkward about going to the research screen and clicking archive?
