Issues with trade networks

Concerning calculations of longest trade route

I've always loved the idea of every trade port gaining a little bit [0.1 or 0.3 or something] for every phase jump or planet in the longest single trade route.

What I find odd is how sometimes this longest trade route line is gimped, in the sense that it will miss out planets with trade ports/SB trade ports instead of making an awesomly long link. For example I've had situations where you get a spiral of planets and jumps, the longest trade route could go all the way around and be like 20 jumps long but instead it takes a retardedly short 4 or 5 to the centre. I have no idea why it does that despite having every planet with trade ports/SB ports D:

Would just like to know what I can do, because if it was user defined where you could create the longest trade route via clicking from trade port to trade port, knowing no planet can be used twice I would have some awesome trade routes c..c

Here is a recent example, all the planets on the left side have trade ports or SB ports, but why does the longest trade route line stop just there ? Is there something I am doing wrong ? D:

w00t! Distant Stars Mod

hate to say it, there is no real way to redo the trade link aside for being very picky about where you place your trade ports (as in which gravwell)

Trade routes will take the shortest path. You have you be very selective about which planets you build trade ports at. You need to create the longest single route you can. It will also shortcut though stars...

I see, so the order in which you build trade ports affect it ? IE going one way it wont ever reverse direction ?  It would explain why it wasnt extending on the left as i started from left to right, so you do literally have to think it out in advance ? :P

yes, build out the line you want first, then carefully add in others (the line does change) that you find dont affect the line.

Not sure what you mean by the order of building trade ports affecting it?  In fact the order does not affect anything.    You can build them in any order.  You can even skip planets in your line, and go back and fill them in later.  It will then calculate the path.  But like the guy said, it will take the shortest path, so you have to force that shortest path to be the longest path, if that makes any sense.

Don't just mindlessly spam trade ports everywhere if you want to have a "longest line of trade ports."

Having all of them at level 6+ with missle barrage was destorying the enemies fully upgraded starbase in about 9 seconds and then their entire fleet about 15 seconds later <3

But yeah, I see what you guys mean... Will work on it, cheers for the help guys =)
