Its due in August... 1.2

In addition, version 1.2 is the next major milestone GPG is working on.  It’s due in August so that we can show it off at PAX where we also expect to be showing off the 2 new Demigods.

This isn't intended as a flame of Stardock or GPG. I'm just wondering what happened that caused such a lengthy delay of everything. I'm only curious because it hurts Demigod as a whole.

Agreed.  I know delays happen, etc, but I'd like to know what the current expected timeframe is... in October?  When its done is great and all, but...

Didn't Brad already mention that the new demigod models were taking much longer than suspected (correct me if I'm wrong)? Aside from that, I don't remember reading much on what has been holding it back. Two nights ago, however, Frogboy said in game that they had just recieved a beta of 1.2.

Perhaps they are testing.  Don't want any bugs / more blackeyes.  I can wait a bit longer if it's for testing.

Just sayin'    :p

There's only one logical explanation.

They attempted to make this map to make 1.2 super awesome.

An open beta for this patch might be viable.

This is what happens when the team or whole company in this case moves on to the next project, Supreme Commander 2.  Then leaves behind 1 or 2 person to continue working on Demigod fixes.  There is no hard deadline so they won't work longer hours or weekends.  It's done when it's done.

Brad is just the messenger and usually pretty optimistic on the release dates.

Boss ask the developer "When is 1.2 done?"

Developer "Atleast 3 months with all these enhancement requests"

Boss tells Gpg CEO "1.2 should be done in 2 months"

Gpg CEO tells Brad "1.2 should be ready for you in 1 month"

Brad post a journal "1.2 will be done in August!!"

I just find it bizarre the Stardock/GPG combo can't seem to get stuff out.

i think GPG/SD should release some screenshots immediately !

shouldnt make to much work to press the screenshot button and upload it ......

im sick of waiting, give us something 8(|

For 1.19 at least, as I'm pretty sure Brad has noted in the past the testing phase ended up taking longer than we'd anticipated. I'm not sure where GPG is at on the rest of 1.2 at this very moment, but I don't doubt that sort of thing is bound to slow down the remaining parts of it.

Development isn't a hard science. Things can take longer than expected regardless of best efforts sometimes.

Real longer than expected... =/

Its not that I'm mad, its just I'm dissapointed at the damage this does to the game's population. I've been waiting on the 2 new guys for what's felt like forever. I can keep waiting, but not everyone else will.

Frankly, I don't see waiting for the new content to be that much of an issue. It's not like everyone is blindly waiting in place, like standing in line to get to a bank teller. Each of us has got other stuff to do, other games to occupy the time, no? Just play more Demigod and have fun, or play other games, learn Lua in preparation for modding, etc.

If the community is this impatient for new content, either the original amount of content is unsatisfactory or the community is really impatient. Either case, even if the 2 new Demigods are out, it'll just satisfy for a couple of months. Beyond that, the impatient ones will likely be back to "new content plz" mode.

Demigod did kind of ship with less content than Supreme Commander did, which I feel is a decent comparison. I just want to actually see those items, favor items, demigods actually show up.

I just think the ante in 2009 is brought up in terms of delivering content post release.

I havent seen a link to Sorians blog here yet: http://soriandev.blogspot.com/

Looks like the last few milestones for SupCom2 took a lot of effort and they had little time to finish them. GPG probably had to focus on that first to stay on schedule. But they have been working constantly on the new demigods and are making progress:

In the midst of all the chaos, I was still able to finish my Demigod work Thursday. Patch 1.2 is really starting to shape up. I can't wait to see the new Demigods after all of their effects are in place. Should be really nice. Demon Assassin is still my favorite.

Looks like we dont have to wait that much longer. However, I wouldnt expect anything within the next month because SD hasnt started to QA the new demigods yet AFAIK.

ok ill accept delay.

BUT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.... communicate with us so we know whats happening, instead of us getting all restless and frustrated as to "why things arent happening!" and thrash at the demigod forum for an answer.

we'll be much more understanding if our questions are answered. Delays will inevitably cause an uproar in the community, so get on top of the issue before it gets out of hand.

If I was a prospective punter looking at these forums I would find this post and the lack of communication far more destressing than a post so patch delayed for X reason, the ensuing list of unhappy posts I would expect for any game.

Stardock communicate with us 100x better than any developer I've personally seen :D

obviously not enough :P

They could have a twitter update section updated every 30 seconds - even when they're asleep - and it wouldn't be enough.

"Bug squashing day at work - hopefully get new build to test"
"New DG build in - looks solid"
"Found new bug in replays - sent through report"
"TB Fire AA now in - so far so good"
"Bug in TB Fire AA with pathing - sent through report"
"GPG looking into new issues, awaiting new build tomorrow"
"Knocked off, headed home"
"Just finished dinner, burnt chicken isn't tastey"
"Tired, headed to bed"
"Just had a nightmare about large woman with burnt KFC chicken chasing me. Can't sleep"

Actually, a twitter update would be amazing.

all of those are acceptable excuses and they would be more than enough to satisfy me

its more of the issue of not knowing wats happening with the 2 new demigods when they were said to be released a while ago now.

unexplained delays are frustrating...
