AI rage quits!

What is it with the latest version. I no sooner get my massive fleets assembled ready to start the long haul of wiping out planets one by one than the stupid AI resigns. WTF?

In my last game the AI had two caps left plus a considerable number of frigates, and a dozen planets. I would at least expect it to put up some kind of a fight.

I know wiping out every n'th planet can get a bit boring, but this is ludicrous.

Stop the AI rage quitting! Make it fight to the last!

I disagree completely. I think the AI resigns much too late, after the struggle is already over and there is just the redious process of wiping out planets. The AI usually fights to the last, when I'm just ready for another game.

Sometimes the AI does quit way too early, with several caps, sizable fleet and plenty of planets, sometimes it fights to last construction frigate. Maybe there is a glitch in the surrender decison?

Besides, if an empire surrenders, shouldn't it also surrender all their planets, and remaining ships to the empire they surrender to? Maybe something for Diplomacy ;)

Hey! That's Centurion's line! :p

AHAHA that so is Centurion's line!

I think the AI takes too long to surrender as well, contrary to the original poster's veiw.

The AI will very rarely surrender if your fleet is of similar size to their's (that is, no more than 2 fleet levels higher).  The will usually only quit after their homeworld is destroyed and they really have no way to replace their fleet.  Even then, I've often had to beat the AI into submission by bombarding its last planet.

However, if you fleet up to a level they cannot compete with, particularly if you do it all at once, they will spontaneously surrender.  In my most recent large comp-stomp game, I was hoovering around 500 command and had built a masterful trade network and had nearly 100k credits in reserve.  After researching everything and having nothing more to really spend on, I bought out every fleet level and started spamming units.  That's when the AI's surrendered.  With a reload and a little tinkering, I was able to show that it was my accumulating fleet size that caused them to surrender.

So the problem is that the AI only recognizes fleet size as disadvantage worthy of surrender.  It doesn't recognize that economic advantage leads to fleet advantage, and colonization advantage leads to economic advantage.  As a result, when you spontaneously decide to fleet up, the AI spontaneously decides to surrender (or else is spontaneously pushed to the brink of surrender).  What we need is an AI that recognizes when a long-term disadvantage is building against it, and it reacts by adjusting its behavior to try to overcome that building disadvantage.  If it grows increasingly desperate and unable to break your advantage, its ultimate surrender wouldn't come out of the blue, but rather it would be the end result of several last-ditch attempts to change the course of the game.

So, you think me having 28 caps, 100 HCs, 100 carriers, 300+ various frigates might have had something to do with it?...

Why doesn't the AI respond? It had huge amounts of resources available. If it used them to build a decent fleet it would have been a glorious battle.

but go MP

Good suggestion, but I like to play when I want, for as long as I want. This game went over two days and three sessions.

considering the cap limit is 16.... I think having 28 caps had something to do with it.

what mod were you playing? distant starts? or did you just uppidy the fleet limits? no one ever wants to play a mod on multiplayer with me... :-(

Yeah, distant stars. It's really good, I'd recommend it. Plus I modded the gameplay.constants file to read this - fleetSupplyData-Large fleetSupplyScalar 2.25

Oh, I did find space ponies before the AI quit

I just loaded the last auto save and took a couple of screenshots. Gives you an idea of a couple of my fleets...

Holy crap AI surrenders now? When was that feature introduced? (lol don't think I've comp stomped since 1.1 vanilla!)

The AI resigns just like that now?

Better to make that dependent on player's acceptance.

Crushing the AI to oblivion is good. }:)

Looking at your pics, even though the AI still has worlds and ships to fight with you are way out ahead of it in all categories.  The AI just saw it was beat and surrendered.

If this was a MP game and the other player didn't admit defeat at this point he would probably get a verbal bashing from his opponent who just wants the win and to move on to the next game.  imho

This is the problem with the AI. Even on unfair I beat the crap out of it. I've even altered the gameplay.constants file so it builds more ships and is more aggresive.

I don't want MP - I like to play casually, when I want for as long as I want. I just wish there was a way to make the AI stronger.

Ahhh Ocean planets, thats a good mod.

Hmm. The player should be able to accept or reject an AI's surrender.

Lol Distant Stars

Yes, Distant stars...

All I did next was invade the nearest forest planet with one of my fleets and the AI quit. You can see from the map how many planets and units it has left. What is worse, the AI had more metal and crystal left than me! It just never used them...

You know it could be the mod is having undesired effects ont he surrender subroutines.

Here we go again. In a two star, two player game, I used 2 Akkans to colonize my system. I then jumped to the enemy system with the 2 Akkans (both now lvl 8) and colonized a couple of planets. I built 8 cap factories at the earth planet and started building my fleet.

Five seconds after I jumped to the enemy planet, its fleet was gone. Five seconds later the AI surrendered. OK, so it's going to quit when I jump in with 32 caps... But what was it doing all the hours I was building my economy? It doesn't appear to have spent any money, expanded its empire, or built many ships. I got my economy by maximizing the efficiency of my trade route, placing refineries in key locations etc.

We both had the same start, and this was set on unfair again. So why is the AI so far off the pace? I can see I will have to tweak the files to get it to build more ships. I just wish I knew how to make it more aggressive.

LOL Fuzzy.

I'm glad to see you like Sim City.

Why don't you come to MP to see what happens when you go against a human and not just take advantage of the overly predicable and always defensive AI?

Stop callin it a ragequit!!!!

Calling it a rage quit confuses the hell outta me.

You need to go easier on the poor computer, imagine that the "I" in AI stands for Incompetence.
