If you are experiencing crashes after updating to 1.04a.062 Read This!

After getting reports from people with this problem, we discovered that SDC was actually deleting files that it shouldn't have been deleting.

We think that we have the problem fixed, so you should be able to re-install Gal Civ to get back those files that were deleted.

Is there any way to download and install just the deleted files? A full reinstallation can take quite a while, even on my fast cable connection. I hate to think what it will do to people with dialups.

No. Unfortunately there is no simple solution to get just the files that were deleted.

Hm, I haven't had any crashes with 1.04a.062 so far.
Would you recommend a reinstallation anyway?

Do I need to uninstall first?

Do I need to move my save games 'out of harm's way' before re-installing?
Is there any way that the update can be installed properly? I have tried many times uninstalling and reinstalling. How do I get the update to work then?
Civ Monger no you don't need to move your save games.

Anyone else notice that in the "history" documentation for the Gal Civ section the latest patch listing is 1.05? I dont see any 1.05 patch available yet, or am I missing something.. TinCup

If you're not getting crashes, you don't need to re-install.

Debug.err will tell you if you're missing files, and with the files that people reported to me, it will crash on startup or before starting/loading a game.

I e-mailed some people who reported it to me the files that they were missing, but some people were missing several files and GC will usually crash as soon as it finds one screen it doesn't have, so the most thorough way would be to unin-stall and re-install.  Alternatively, you could leave it installed and then download the standalone.  But that will only work before you download 1.05. :)

Governor routing is poofed here on 1.05.068. Should I try the uninstall/reinstall? A real pain.. Worked fine in all the incarnations of 1.04

1.05.068 is very unstable here. The governor is unusable (crashes immediately) and the program crashes capriciously during play if you govern manually.

Also had problems with trying to set the governor. Crashes immediately. I uninstalled the game then reinstalled from the disc and updated to 1.05.

Isn't there an easier way to recover those lost files than a full uninstall/reinstall? And will this actually fix the governor problem? No one seems to have specifically addressed that. :notsure:

Well I just tried it and I can verify that it doesn't fix the governer problem.

I've been having a consistent crash while researching Alpha Omega . . . when one of those morality test type of situations arise it crashes the computer whithout exception (you know the ones gives three options/alternatives).

Tried restarting, reinstalling and everything else . . . Agggrr! (:(

I haven't had any problems with clashes under 1.04a.062. However, I have not been able to update to any of the newer versions, 1.05.068 or 1.05.069. Each time, as it downloads "battletransport.shi_", it would display an "Invalid chunk data" error, resulting in "Failed (incorrect file size)". I found an autoupdate.log file under SDCentral, but it didn't record any problems. Any suggestions?

I don't know about recovering lost files, but if you have the game installed, you can download the 1.04 stand alone patch and use it to downgrade to that stable version. Not perfect, but it at least lets you play in the meantime.

I had an issue where I was updating to 1.05.069 and would get a CTD before starting the game. Apparently, my SDC build 15 should have updated to build 16 but would not. I installed SDC 1.0, instead of the RC5, or whatever version came on the GalCiv CD and then SDC auto-updated to build 16 and I could correctly reinstall GalCiv and update to the latest version.

The build that is currently on SDC will fix the governor's crash, and as long as you have the newest build of SDC, you should be able to get it without further problems.

Thanks for your feedback. I did a check on my SDC and its 1.01a.175 build 16, so the SDC looks fine. I tried again on 1.05.071 but it still won't update... (:(

Perhaps, I will just reinstall the whole app. :notsure:

I have various errors I guess these are the missing files I have not had one CTD though. I guess I will reinstall to make sure I do not have one either. ;)

I am still getting these same errors after reinstalling with 1.05 plus a new one no. Right after reinstall CTD. I Rebooted and it now loads fine.

MWinEditFields::Create - Unable to find sprite sizing graphic for NameInputBG

ASSERT ERROR in file G:\PROJECTS\pear\source\Model2d.cpp at line 2400.

Debug Message: MemMan: Unable to find pointer in GetBlockInfo. Memory system: DataMan

Debug Message: Animation Small has 17 frames of animation, which does not divide evenly into 32 facings.

ASSERT ERROR in file G:\PROJECTS\pear\SOURCE\MWIN.CPP at line 397. (again)

These are all the errors I find for my current game. I reloaded an old saved game. Seems to be working fine. I hope this helps resolve the problems. :D

I was having those problems too... I updated to build 16 unistalled and reinstalled GalCiv and then updated to 1.05.071 and then everything went back to normal.
