While playing single-player, I noticed a bit of a quirk with my AI ally.

I never realized that ships other than a scout can use Explore. Along with the Cobolt, a few Gardas and a Cielo were also set on explore.
It probably isn't that important, but pretty interesting to see. 
Well yeah... LF's make good explorers because they are fast and have more health (aside from Disciples) than the scouts do.
I always manual scout. I find the scout, light frigate, and flak are the best choices.
Certainly one of the smarter things of the AI, sometimes. I've built up hangars at a side world only to get scouted by flak.
That explains a lot. I've always wondered why the AI will send one lone flak or other wierd ships at my planets.
I always thought that it was kind of strange scouts needed an ability to do what is a command for all units in most RTS games. But I guess the AI has no such limitations.
They don't have an "Explore" button similiar to scouts that I can see. So what are you guys talking about? =/
That's what I thought. Wasn't entirely sure if we had an explore functionality... Which would make an awesome addition *winkwinknudgenudgesaynomoresaynomore* to the devs. I wouldn't mind putting together a small fleet to explore rather than having to replace my scouts every 5 minutes later on in the game.
Technically exploring is sorta of a patrol, so my question is: is there a way to modify the ability so it only patrols planets that you actually own?
Possible, but doubtfull....
