In mammalian oral anatomy, the canine teeth, also called cuspids, dogteeth, fangs, or (in the case of those of the upper jaw) eye teeth, are relatively long, pointed teeth. However, they can appear more flattened, causing them to resemble incisors and leading them to be called incisiform. They evolved and are used primarily for firmly holding food in order to tear it apart, and occasionally as weapons. They are often the largest teeth in a mammal's mouth. Most species that develop them normally have four per individual, two in the upper jaw and two in the lower, separated within each jaw by its incisors; humans and dogs are examples. In most animals, canines are the anterior-most teeth in the maxillary bone.

A nightmare is a dream which causes a strong unpleasant emotional response from the sleeper, typically fear or horror, being in situations of extreme danger, or the sensations of pain, bad events, falling, drowning or death. Such dreams can be related to physical causes such as a high fever, turned faced down on a pillow during sleep (most often in the case of drowning nightmares), or psychological ones such as psychological trauma or stress in the sleeper's life, or can have no apparent cause. If a person has experienced a psychologically traumatic situation in life—for example, a person who may have been captured and tortured—the experience may come back to haunt them in their nightmares. Sleepers may waken in a state of distress and be unable to get back to sleep for some time. Eating before bed, which triggers an increase in the body's metabolism and brain activity, is another potential stimulus for nightmares^[1].

Occasional nightmares are commonplace, but recurrent nightmares can interfere with sleep and may cause people to seek medical help. A recently proposed treatment consists of imagery rehearsal.^[2] This approach appears to reduce the effects of nightmares and other symptoms in acute stress disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.^[3]

A rooster, also called a cock or chanticleer is a male chicken (Gallus gallus), the female being called a hen. They do not have a dominant foot. Immature male chickens of less than a year's age are called cockerels. The oldest term is "cock", from Old English coc. It is sometimes replaced by the term "cockerel" (which properly refers to a young male chicken) in the United Kingdom, and almost always by "rooster" (a relative neologism) in North America and Australia. "Cock" is in general use as the name for a male of other species of bird, for example "Cock sparrow". "Roosting" is the action of perching aloft to sleep at night, and is actually done by both sexes. The rooster is polygamous, but cannot guard several nests of eggs at once. He guards the general area where his hens are nesting, and will attack other roosters who enter his territory. During the daytime, he often sits on a high perch, usually 4–5 feet off the ground, to serve as a lookout for his flock. He will sound a distinctive alarm call if predators are nearby.

The rooster is often (accurately) portrayed as crowing at the break of dawn. He can often be seen sitting on fence posts or other objects, where he crows to proclaim his territory.

However, this idea is more romantic then real, as a rooster can and will crow at any time of the day. Some roosters are especially vociferous, crowing almost constantly, while others only crow a few times a day. These differences are dependent both upon the cock's breed and individual personality.

He has several other calls as well, and can cluck, similar to the hen. Roosters will occasionally make a patterned series of clucks to attract hens to a source of food, the same way a mother hen does for her chicks.

What is fuzzy logic?

Fuzzy logic is a superset of conventional (Boolean) logic that has been
extended to handle the concept of partial truth -- truth values between
"completely true" and "completely false".  It was introduced by Dr. Lotfi
Zadeh of UC/Berkeley in the 1960's as a means to model the uncertainty
of natural language. (Note: Lotfi, not Lofti, is the correct spelling
of his name.)

Zadeh says that rather than regarding fuzzy theory as a single theory, we
should regard the process of ``fuzzification'' as a methodology to
generalize ANY specific theory from a crisp (discrete) to a continuous
(fuzzy) form (see "extension principle" in [2]). Thus recently researchers
have also introduced "fuzzy calculus", "fuzzy differential equations",
and so on (see [7]).

Fuzzy Subsets:

Just as there is a strong relationship between Boolean logic and the
concept of a subset, there is a similar strong relationship between fuzzy
logic and fuzzy subset theory.

In classical set theory, a subset U of a set S can be defined as a
mapping from the elements of S to the elements of the set {0, 1},

   U: S --> {0, 1}

This mapping may be represented as a set of ordered pairs, with exactly
one ordered pair present for each element of S. The first element of the
ordered pair is an element of the set S, and the second element is an
element of the set {0, 1}.  The value zero is used to represent
non-membership, and the value one is used to represent membership.  The
truth or falsity of the statement

    x is in U

is determined by finding the ordered pair whose first element is x.  The
statement is true if the second element of the ordered pair is 1, and the
statement is false if it is 0.

Similarly, a fuzzy subset F of a set S can be defined as a set of ordered
pairs, each with the first element from S, and the second element from
the interval [0,1], with exactly one ordered pair present for each
element of S. This defines a mapping between elements of the set S and
values in the interval [0,1].  The value zero is used to represent
complete non-membership, the value one is used to represent complete
membership, and values in between are used to represent intermediate
DEGREES OF MEMBERSHIP.  The set S is referred to as the UNIVERSE OF
DISCOURSE for the fuzzy subset F.  Frequently, the mapping is described
as a function, the MEMBERSHIP FUNCTION of F. The degree to which the
statement

    x is in F

is true is determined by finding the ordered pair whose first element is
x.  The DEGREE OF TRUTH of the statement is the second element of the
ordered pair.

In practice, the terms "membership function" and fuzzy subset get used
interchangeably.

That's a lot of mathematical baggage, so here's an example.  Let's
talk about people and "tallness".  In this case the set S (the
universe of discourse) is the set of people.  Let's define a fuzzy
subset TALL, which will answer the question "to what degree is person
x tall?" Zadeh describes TALL as a LINGUISTIC VARIABLE, which
represents our cognitive category of "tallness". To each person in the
universe of discourse, we have to assign a degree of membership in the
fuzzy subset TALL.  The easiest way to do this is with a membership
function based on the person's height.

Expressions like "A is X" can be interpreted as degrees of truth,
e.g., "Drew is TALL" = 0.38.

Note: Membership functions used in most applications almost never have as
simple a shape as tall(x). At minimum, they tend to be triangles pointing
up, and they can be much more complex than that.  Also, the discussion
characterizes membership functions as if they always are based on a
single criterion, but this isn't always the case, although it is quite
common.  One could, for example, want to have the membership function for
TALL depend on both a person's height and their age (he's tall for his
age).  This is perfectly legitimate, and occasionally used in practice.
It's referred to as a two-dimensional membership function, or a "fuzzy
relation".  It's also possible to have even more criteria, or to have the
membership function depend on elements from two completely different
universes of discourse.

Logic Operations:

Now that we know what a statement like "X is LOW" means in fuzzy logic,
how do we interpret a statement like

    X is LOW and Y is HIGH or (not Z is MEDIUM)

The standard definitions in fuzzy logic are:

    truth (not x)   = 1.0 - truth (x)
    truth (x and y) = minimum (truth(x), truth(y))
    truth (x or y)  = maximum (truth(x), truth(y))

Some researchers in fuzzy logic have explored the use of other
interpretations of the AND and OR operations, but the definition for the
NOT operation seems to be safe.

Note that if you plug just the values zero and one into these
definitions, you get the same truth tables as you would expect from
conventional Boolean logic. This is known as the EXTENSION PRINCIPLE,
which states that the classical results of Boolean logic are recovered
from fuzzy logic operations when all fuzzy membership grades are
restricted to the traditional set {0, 1}. This effectively establishes
fuzzy subsets and logic as a true generalization of classical set theory
and logic. In fact, by this reasoning all crisp (traditional) subsets ARE
fuzzy subsets of this very special type; and there is no conflict between
fuzzy and crisp methods.

Some examples -- assume the same definition of TALL as above, and in addition,
assume that we have a fuzzy subset OLD defined by the membership function:

Long ago, there existed a very complete Zero.  Even though "It" had traveled for what "it"

considerd a eternity, "It" never truly understood its place.  Even though the zero

forming within... This transformation brought about a new awareness...which kindled

Okay, there are a bunch of mathematicians and popular scientists who like to think maths is the universal language... okay, fine, i agree, 1 + 1 in any language is still 2, no matter how you depict it... but what good is a language if you cant say anything with it? You cant use maths to describe, depict or define beauty, love, anger, loyalty, pride, self-preservation, lust/attraction, and those are just the easy ones (all the emotions) you cant communicate philosophy with maths. You cant even communicate what each value means, so you cant tell the other person when you switch from explaining how the computer works to what the computer looks like.

Yeah yeah, maths is the universal language... but its a language that doesnt say a whole lot... which makes it rather superfluous and 'meh'

and yet... it would appear you have not actually said anything. you havent outlined a lesson, you havent told us anything, you've been defending a position you havent even defined yet, is it possible you dont even know yourself what you are talking about, and instead hope that if you spout enough semi-sensicle sludge, someone else will fill in the details? This post and others like it reminds me of a story. A poet and the smartest man/scientist alive are sitting next to each other on a plane. The Scientist, getting bored, turned to the Poet and said: "I say, what would you say to a wager?"

The Poet said "Im listening"

The Scientist said "I will ask you a question, and if you get it wrong, you pay me $50. Then, you ask me a question, and if i cannot answer it, or answer it wrong, ill pay you $50"

The Poet said "oh, i dont know, you seem pretty confident and smart... i dont think i want to wager"

So the Scientist says "okay, if you cannot answer my question, you only have to pay $20" but the Poet declines.

So the Scientist, desperate for a distraction, says "Fine, if i get a question wrong, ill give you $100, and if you get one wrong, you only have to pay me $5"

At which point the Poet says "Well, with those bets, okay, i suppose ill give it a go"

The Scientist, excited, asks "Okay, what is the value of Pie to 6 decimal places?"

The Poet, knowing he has no clue, simply hands over a $5 bill silently.

The Scientist, feeling smug, says "okay, your turn." So the Poet thinks for a bit and asks "What goes up a mountain on 3 legs, eats the mossy grass there, and comes down on 4 legs?"

The Scientist's smile disappears, as he pulls out a pen and paper and begins to write down equations. After a while, he pulls out a calculator and starts punching in numbers, and then later he pulls out a laptop and begins to run the most advanced simulation programs.

At the end of the flight, the Poet gets up to leav and the Scientist, not having had any food, drink or rest, looks at the Poet and says "I cannot figure it out...". He grudgingly pulls out a $100 bill and gives it to the Poet.

The Poet thanks him and turns to leave, but the Scientist, half crazed, stops him and says "Wait, you cant leave, i must know the answer. What goes up a mountain on 3 legs but comes down on 4?"

The Poet says "I have no idea, but if i find out, ill be sure to tell you"
