How do u beat 4 hard AI to get the acheivement?

Hello everyone

I trying to get the acheivement of beating 4 hard AI. However this has proved to be pretty difficult sinc the AI seems to always allie themselves against me. Only a short while into the game all the AIs attack me with their combined fleet, each of them being bigger than mine. Now I´ve read alot of strategies on how to conquer hard AI here on the forum but they all seem to include the fact than one must make treaties with som of the AI to get them of youre back. I have already played such a game and won (i made alot of alliances in that game) but then i didnt get the acheivement, I figured it was because I hade made the treaties (since it sais that one must win by oneself). So how do u beat 4-5 hard AI without making treaties? Has anyone done that?

My strategy so far has been to expand pretty slowly and to go for LRM early, however I have been starting to wonder if the LRM is the best tactic since i requires quite alot of gold in the early face to acheive. I have been playing on a small map (around 25 planets) with 5 opponents.

Well thanks in advance for any advice.

Try locking the teams. This sets them against each other as well as you and you do get the achivement. It how I got mine. That and setting up a good map through galaxy forge (used suns as choke points, can set up 4 starbases there) helps a lot.

there is a much easier way

(at least this is how i got it, they may have rectified it since)

put the 4 AI on Easy at the beginning of the game, build up a big fleet or 3, then when uve researched everything and fortified your frontline worlds, save, exit, then load the game again and before you click start, set all 4 ai to hard or unfair whatever. then load and wipe them out

thing is the AI only builds at the beginning of the game. you could give the AI a few days to build up defenses etc... he might build a fleet, but thats about it. so within the hour or 2 (on the outside) that it might take you to wipe them out, they wont be much of a challenge.

thats just the easy way to get the achievement, but if you want a challenge, the above post also works

4 hard ai's = easy actually

pick the smallest 5 player map u can find

put all the 4 ai's in hard mode,  and, lock the teams and put them in team 2,3,4,5 (you being 1)

build up like usual,  but don wait for the ai's to finish eachtoher then come to you.

if you'r stil having trouble you might wanna play online a bit, and host "comp stomps"  and learn from others there

for when i got that achievement and i had to play turtle as TEC for most of the game. the enemy kept sending lots of large fleets, but they only ever seemed to have LF's and LC's my counter was a Argonev with 2 weapons, 2 hull, 2 hanger, and 2 safety override, combined with lots of hanger defenses (with the flak upgrade) and cap ships hanging around to gain exp from the slaughter the Argonev inflicted on the LF's

Took awhile but i had a full 16 capital ships all at level 10, simply from having them around for defensive slaughters (battle of the Somme style). 8 kols, 2 akkans 2 dunovs and 4 marzas. then i sent this fleet after the enemy home worlds, along with large groups of Ogrovs and Kodiaks. focused on one enemy at a time, going through the planets, wiping out defenses and bombarding the planets. i didnt bother colonising them till after the enemy was gone. then repeat against other enemys.

once my fleet was ready, it took me less than 2 hours to kill 4 unfair AI's (2 advent, 2 vasaari)

It's a lot easier to just ally with one of the AI's. Do a simple mission or two at the beginning, give them some resources, or kill a few of the people they hate. It's a PITA, but it works well. The mission screen will aslo tell you how much 'favor' you'll get for any particular mission, so if you are well liked, you can skip one or two.

The real problem with AI's, is that once you're down to you and one, it doesn't matter how much they like you, they'll declare war on you.

i figured when it said beat at least 4 hard AI's by yourself, it meant no AI help either

lock teams, be deffensive at beginning, expand in ways to have lowest possible number of frontlines, make weapon techs and prepare big army... and u can get 10 hard AIs with no problem

It does. When you ally with any AI you do not get the achivement. At least I never did.

like i said, start the game with all your AI's on easy, then when you've got a big bombad fleet, save, exit, reload with all AI as hard or unfair, and go for it.

best thing too, is that if you havent got any of the preeeding achievements like beat 1 hard ai by yourself, beat 2 etc (like i hadnt) you get them all shotgun, yeehah

The other way is to play on a big map, with lots of stars. That usually puts you alone in a starting system. Fortify the Star (4 starbases, 2 of which at least have max fighters), will cripple any invasion force. You can go out from there and start to whittle them down.

It takes a long time to win that way, but it works.

If you want, play vinalla sins, it prevents it from building starbases, or a better way is to mod your race and then have your other 4 raaces not the same races as yours and then you can win with ease.

It's not as hard as it sounds, once you get the hang of the game.  For instance, whenever I play now, I almost always play the same custom map: a single-star, 115-planet (5 pirates), 10-way free-for-all.  No locked teams, and I play Vasari.  Basically, a typical game will have 3-4 "front-line" systems where, if you put starbases in them, you'll be safe; while the AIs have a resource advantage on Hard, the player will be able to claim more systems before you hit that inevitable point where everything's taken, so it balances.  And, if you complete every resource-based diplomacy mission as fast as possible, you'll end up with at least three or four other AIs with Cease Fires, and doing this causes the AIs to turn on each other instead of all ganging up on you.  (If you're really lucky, one of the Cease Fires will be with one of the two AIs adjacent to you, making a buffer that attackers won't go through often.)

If I set all of the AIs to Normal it's too easy to win, even with them ganging up on me; on Hard, it's actually HARD to win, but I still do so on a regular basis.  The key is the starbases, though; without them, I was only once able to beat this map on Hard, and Normal was a challenge even as Vasari.

Shrug, I can't see it as being real hard. It might take a while - but it's entirely do-able.

The AI's problem is that it's too predictable.

1) Expand early to get what you can, until early borders become clear

2) Build a lot of defenses on your front lines. Always include a PJI

3) Move your fleet(s) to a system BEHIND your frontline gravwells. Hopefully there's a place where they can cover more than one frontline gravwell.

4) The AI will typically jump in with enough to take the system's defenses - NOT enough to fight both it and your fleet. Let them take a little damage (a.k.a. "commit" to taking your system, not waiting at the edge where they can jump out quick). This also gives you time to jump your fleet two or even four systems (depending) before their attack really starts hurting you.

5) Jump in (Group Jump) and head a course to where they will probably try to exit. Kill them along the way, then demolish them while they're held up by your PJI (plus not fighting back). Of course, anything that further pins them there helps even more.

6) If things go well, they just lost the fleet that was defending THEIR next system. So jump to it. Their fleet remnants will flee and you'll get their system. Usually. Not always.

This is a slow but pretty sure way to win. By the time they start having monster fleets, you will probably have a monster fleet and defensive frontline systems, too.

You win.
