What just happened to the Sins wiki?

It used to be at www.soasewiki.com but as of an hour(?) ago that link brings you to sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com.

Also they didn't carry over a lot of my research (RedKnight on the old wiki) and I can't even sign in.

Is the switchover authorized or is somebody hijacking the site?

Thanks!

I have never seen it anywhere but at sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com

Hm, strange.

I always used the www.soasewiki.com  site because it looked cooler (like the forums here), and presented info a lot better IMHO. I for one just like long data tables comparing things side by side... not cute little individual icons (for ships or structures, etc.) that then show you only one item's data - nothing side by side, and so much clicking.

Somebody at the wikia site continally "borrowed" stuff (mine and others) from the SoaSEwiki site, which is no big deal, but they missed a lot and sometimes made mistakes (apparently when they paraphrased stuff I or others wrote).

I don't care about them copying; that's the way wikis work. At this point I'm just asking, is this an approved re-direct.

If it is, my next question is, how can I recover all the additional stuff I had on SoaSEwiki that didn't make it over :P

You need to be fast... go to http://www.google.be/search?as_sitesearch=www.soasewiki.com ... you will have almost 400 result... all from the soasewiki.com ... don't click the link to the page who send you but the sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com but click the "in cache" option who will show you a cached version from the last spider run... be aware that around each two week, the google spider scan again the site... so, soon, the cached version will have the page of the sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com... and you will not more be able to find the older page...

Next time, when you work so much on a project, use the firefox plug-in SpiderZilla ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1616 )... it will allow you to have a local mirror of the site on your harddrive... i have myself numerous copy of site who are now dead for years... when the site is alive, make the first mirror who can take some time but the weekly refresh will be fast since it only download the difference... by the way, a local mirror is always interesting... you can browse it offline, everywhere and when you wish... majority of information site can be stored on a single DVD... by example, the offline version of the wikipedia is 3.5 gb for 5500 article, 34000 images and 20 million words... one CD will have be enough for a offline mirror of your soasewiki... in short, next time, backup the site you work with...

ok, hmm... I guess it's a lot harder to "reconstruct" it now (versus if I already spidered it)... any way to automate this? :P

P.S. Thanks for the reminder about google's cache... and the tip about spidering!

Hmm... did anybody care about the SoaSEwiki ?

Would anyone know who the sysops were (are?) for it?

Bumping this instead of creating a new thread to let people know the Wikia still exists even if the SoASE one doesn't. Zeta-Legion, Darvin, and I slowly work on it.

Titan AEX4 is the one leaving auto-messages to new editors so I assume he's at least one of the admins.

I would not put it past wiki admins to merge wikis that are the same content. Why have 2, just so someone else can be a syop?

Are pages like SoaSEWiki:Disciple Vessel the ones from the old http://www.soase.wiki.com?

Based on their edit histories it looks like that's exactly what happened. We should probably just get rid of them as they all have replacement pages now and look extremely out of date anyway. Maybe do a very quick cursory check of each of them before deletion to see if there's anything significant, but I doubt it.

There any chance of being able to contact at least one of the four admins for help; probably Titan? https://www.sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com/wiki/Special:ListUsers/sysop

That is what I thought, extracting useful information is about the only thing that needs to be with the SoaSEWiki pages.

I hope an admin can be reached, I already had to redirect a misnamed version of the SoaSEWiki:Percheron Light Carrier page. If not then I will request an admin position, I probably should do that on Homeworld Wiki too, I am qualified because I am a contributor on several wikis and am already a StarCraft Wiki admin.

Turn them into redirect pages instead of deleting them outright, in case there are any external links pointing at them.

Given your activity level recently, you've certainly earned such a position.  I don't think Titan is active anymore; I haven't seen him on the activity logs in months.

Thanks to the Distant Stars Wiki, I was able to add the missing Diplomacy Research Trees and update the existing Research Trees. The research effects on primarily the vanilla trees need to be written in plain English instead of code, but other than that they are looking good.

I know I made the last post and normally I would just edit that, but I thought it prudent to make a new post. I have just finished a new Sins wiki Maps page for all of the official maps in Sins, including the new maps in Diplomacy, and pages for all lore locations that can be extrapolated from the maps with categories to boot. The page has also been pinned to the wiki main page.

I'd loved to see this site archived (but available) and a new site created.  The weebly modding page is an incredible example of how good this could be: http://soase.weebly.com/index.html

Thanks to a fellow admin on the StarCraft Wiki, I was able to find the place to adopt a wiki and become an admin. I have done enough work recently that if they don't give me the job I am going to be very annoyed.

If there's a way we can sponsor you, I'd support your application.

I got the Sins of a Solar Empire Wiki admin job, it just took longer than I expected, and bureaucratic red tape is extremely annoying. With this new found authority, I have done a few useful things like add a favicon (little picture by the site url), improved the rather drab theme currently in use, and deal with the legacy articles from SoaSEWiki by extracting any useful information and making them redirects to the current articles. I would really like a version of the Sins logo to be the wordmark, wordmark is currently just Sins of a Solar Empire Wiki in blue.

Please change the color scheme on the wiki! Noone can read dark blue letters on black, or yellow on white - human eye can focus on colors that differ just in the blue component of the color.

I saw your post about it, and took care of it.
