My card was charged. Which according to the Stardock store means the game should have been released...right?

No way the game can go from Alpha to Gold in one leap. And neither that they would release a beta without Frogboy (or BoogieBac) making a previous post to hype us to the max. Not counting that they are still too busy with Demigod.
A friend of mine reported getting charged yesterday too. So presumably that means things are getting into gear.
Check that thread Wintersong linked. It seems more likely that you're just seeing the results of Stardock verifying the credit card. Real billing will not happen until beta bits are posted on Impulse, which we shouldn't expect to see until sometime in June at the earliest. I don't gamble, but I'd almost bet that the devs will make an announcement here when they start charging our cards for real.
I did, but my friend said it was a charge and not a check. They don't look the same on a statement.
Said friend could have been wrong, of course. 
What shows up (always) is a pre-auth on the card. We have a lot of customers confuse it with a charge. It drops off the account within two weeks (depends on the card issuers policies). We're not charging for the pre-orders yet.
