That's weird. "This" didn't appear twice when I went to edit the OP.

Ah, whatever.:annoyed:

 Enjoy the trailer.

It's so nice to have the cartoons of my youth finally done justice after so many horrifying disappointments...

I haven't forgot about the last movie. It felt like the only reason to go see it was for the special effects (for those who like the sweet taste of eye candy).

I also think this webcomic is a good review of the first movie (see link below):

Anal retentive movie reviewers should be strung up by their nads until they relax their sphincters.

Was Transformers the best movie to ever grace the screen, obviously not.  Was Transformers completely devoid of plot, character development, etcetera, no.

Taking your entertainment too seriously is a mental defect.

Transformers was fun enough that I own the DVD.

I mean, I don't disagree with the VGA Cats review, but at the same time, I don't agree that it was bad.

Although, I think it's okay for people to take their entertainment as seriously as they want. It's entertainment, you shouldn't feel obligated to like it if you, well, don't like it.

Yes, you can take your entertainment seriously. However, it does get kind of weird when  someone says the Halo is American pro-Iraq war propaganda.

I wonder what sort of analysis they applied to reach that conclusion.

I mean, it is possible for games to also be propaganda, so it's not a concept I'd dismiss outright - but it does seem to be an incredible stretch to get from Halo to there.

That is why I used it as an example to show that you can, in fact take games a little bit to seriously for your own good.

Transformers didn't even have good action scenes.  Michael Bay needs to chill the fuck out with the camera and let me focus on an object for more than 2 seconds.  I understand there were robots fighting but I'm going to have to watch this fight scene frame by frame, fun.  So bad action scenes couples with the usual action movie characters and plot equals, in my head at least, bad action movie.

I am opened minded about the sequel though and the trailer looks cool.

Bay does the thing that directors do now a days since they have no concept of good camera work (and Saving Private Ryan gave them a great idea), just make the camera really shakey and you can say you tried to make it a whirlwind of action or some crap.  It worked for Ryan because it was supposed to open up in that confused, horrible way.  Movies now just do it because they are a lazy.  Long, story short, I think Bay is terrible.

I loved Transformers as a kid, went and saw the movie the day it came out (something I never do) and enjoyed it because it was transformers, but the VG Cats review is on the money, it was more about that kid and the girl than the transformers.  The decepticons were all generic (outside of a Megatron) and the Autobots were just backdrops for a cliched teen romance story.  I own the DVD, skip to all the autobot v decepticons parts and get through it in any viewing in about 20 minutes.  I am holding out hope that this next movie actually is about the transformers, we will see I guess.

Samurye,

That's not a good example, though. If someone wants to believe that Halo is propaganda, how does that hurt anyone else? Is just holding the opinion hurtful and damaging?

Now Jack Thompson, yeah, totally. He abused his profession to attempt to control the video game industry and suppress free speech, but at this point he's not trying to espouse his dislike of the games, but actively attempting to eliminate entertainment that does not meet his approval.

I think it's ok for people to have mental defects too, they're still mental defects.

Psychoak,

there's too much wrong with your statement to unpack it here. I'm pretty sure I don't have anything to say to you that you'd want to hear at this point.

I didn't say anything about hurting anyone, I was saying that when you start that kind of analasyis, you're probably taking the game a little to seriously. What i'm trying to say is that when you stop having fun in your game and start scanning it for hidden meaning, you're taking it a little to seriously. It is just a game after all.

I disagree. Sometimes (frequently, even) games do have a subtext to them that the designers may or may not have intended. Some frequently even have a subtext that is simply pervasive in society, that the designers simply passed along because it's an everyday part of some people's assumptions.

I disagree that any depth of analysis of games is a waste of time, and the idea that games shouldn't be taken seriously as full-fledged media (like movies, books, comics, music, etc) is total nonsense. Either games get to be a form of creative expression (which they are) and are subject to criticism and analysis, or ... there is no "or."

And really, why do you care if someone stumbles across something in a game that they find disagreeable? I mean, seriously speaking, so what? Either you can relate to it (and maybe that affects your ability to enjoy the game) or you can't relate to it (and thus it's not relevant to you). If you can't relate to it, why do you want to mock it? Why does it matter to you?

I know that many games have some form of subtext, and I actually believe that all of them do. I'm not saying that any level of analysis of a game is a waste of time. I'm saying that sometimes people overanalyze. It dosen't really matter to me wether or not people like something in a game, and i'm not trying to mock anyone. People are entitled to their own opinions, it's just that it gets annoying when people are constantly telling me that Harry Potter will steal my soul and the sign on the back of my dollar bill means that the illuminati are going to take over the world. I don't really care what people believe, because that is their own business. Just don't force me to follow your tought process. I really hope that you understand what I'm saying because I don't want a flame war, and this conversation seems to be heading in that direction.
