Get the beta patch!

Click he Impulse icon at the top left of Impulse, make sure show pre-release is checked.  Update!

From my experience it seems.

1) People connect to lobbies much faster.

2) Connections between people in lobby seems flakier, but it'll still show green non-0 ping.  It does generally seem to work, unless you're really not connected to a lot of people, in which case

3) You may still drop at the beginning of the game

4) Drops in-game seems to be gone now.  The screen that shows up briefly in the past actually stays up and starts counting, presumably at 30s they get kicked.  It's cumulative.

5) Favor seems to work more often now, but sometimes it'll still show up as 0.

I've noticed that the drops at the start of the game are from the game actually crashing, not the networking.

At least that's what I've noticed from playing with people I know. They drop and they tell me that Demigod crashed.

Its still pretty unreliable, i would say the 0 ping issue/yellow pings has gotten worse. Also still getting the problem where people who say they are connected to everyone do not join the lobby, they just hang. Getting issues with people who host games not actually appearing in the connection info, so no connection attempt is done, like dead games. There is also the minor issue of the connection info box filling up with unkickable dead connection attempts is still there, you 'eject' them but on next refresh they appear again.

Currently anything beyond 3vs3 requires extreme patience.

However once ingame, it no longer drops people at the first lag spike.

tryed a bit and well the speed was really good, connection to games was even faster but still TOOO MANY yellow player, too many 0 ping and ofc not much ppl DLed the beta so couldnt even start a game

 

but of the 10 15 that i saw around 20 30 % had big problems just connecting, even faster

I've had this happen to me, and seen it happen to others both yesterday and the day before, so that's not the fault of the beta patch, and apparently, accordig to this thread the beta patch doesn't fix the issue 100% either, but it's a start.

Is there any way to uninstall the patch and revert to the latest release version without reinstalling demigod? 8C

The only custom game I see since I installed the beta patch is a password-protected test game hosted by frogboy, and I can't catch anyone on skirmish.

No, you have to download all of Demigod again. That's why archiving is useful. However, these are slow times, even if their ussually is a handful of games going at this time of day. Give it through the afternoon to circulate(I believe I read that the beta patch is different enough to only allow playing between two people who have it). Tonite their should be lots of action like other nights.

Hey guys, since this is a 'beta' patch, getting your logs will be of the utmost importance. As you run into crashes, disconnects, or other flakey behavior, please send your DemigodLog.txt ImpulseReactor.log's to [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected].

Those files can be found at 'documents/my games/gas powered games/demigod/'.

I did notice connecting to a lobby faster. Although after I lost a 3v3, it pretty much froze at the end game Scores. When I went to click main menu, an "Connectabilty window appeared behind the Scores window and it locked up. I opened up Task Manager and it still said it was "Running" as opposed to "Not Responding"

Careful of this patch. I now Crash with an unhandled exception a LOT upon launching games. I join lobbies super fast. The game starts, but they freezes and i have CTRL ALT DEL to get out.

 

I no long crash when "Failed to connect" shows, but on launch of the game, well 5 games played 4 crashed when the host launched, one worked perfectly.

 

Also note most dont't have the patch, so there is almost no-one hosting a custom game, and Parth games seem to be all AI :(

Also, this is the first MP game i have seen that allows different versions of a client to be used. Surely with a game with a small community like this, its better to either force all to have the patch or none, as fragmenting an already small playerbase seems counter productive to me, and a very strage decision to make in an online Multiplayer game. I can understand having alpha/beta's available for SP games such as Galciv, but this decision is one that has led to me having no-one to play against unless i un-install and redownload the 3gb game.

Just crashed trying to join a game.

I also have another issue I was wondering about. What causes not being able to connect to some players. Fore Example. I'm player A. I can connect to player B, but not Player C. Howerver, Player B can connect to player A and C...?

You made the choice to try it.  I came on the forums for feedback first and found out about archiving it before updating and asking in the channel.  Considering those are the only two places the info about the beta patch is on, you should have known what you were getting yourself into.  

 

On a related note, I was getting the crashes when starting/loading games yesterday.  It only started happening yesterday and I have never had it before.  It happened 3 out of 4 times, or 2 out of 3, a game started like you said.  So, I wonder if it is actually caused by the beta patch or another update.

The good news is that that crash was found and fixed last night. The bad news is that it was too late to get into the build. We'll update it on Monday.

The favor seems to be working for me (made a post in general about it) and connections to the lobby seem way faster, havent had any problems  yet.
