Your First PC Game

Your First PC Game

Hi! everyone, I have a simple question, what was the first PC game that you have played and loved?

For me it was Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty.

It was way back in 1993 (cant believe its been already 16 years) on my IBM 486 with all 4MB of ram. Since that time I have played over a 100 PC games, but I was wondering what was other people's gaming debut. Feel free to elaborate on the subject (what year, at home, at a friend, how much you paid).

You should think twice about that... and make sure you have enough free time for the worst case scenario.

If you experience the same problem I had, you won't be able to stop playing all of your functional old games for weeks.  This happened to me a few months ago when I broke out my old ST1040 and played all the way through Ultima 3, 4, and 5.

Yeah, last time I dared the venture up there I ended up playing through most of the Quest for Glory series over a couple of days. Maybe I should just stick to playing my Impulse (and other more current) games with my spare time. Although I can hear many titles call out to me from the darkness. I will probably be better of not getting hold of my Ultima 7 box again for example... ;-)

Yeah, I stopped nostalgia trip at 5 for a good reason...  otherwise I'd still be playing Ultima 7 right now

Unreal the single player game before Unreal Tournament back in 1998. The graphics blew my mind back then, and so did the power of the keyboard, and mouse for first person shooters.

Yeah, very understandable, Ultima 7 is one of my all time favourite games. I don't think the countless hours I spent on the Ultima 7s back in the days has yet to be rivaled by any other game or game series to date. I've been meaning to try it out with Exult (http://exult.sourceforge.net/) for years, making it playable without having to kick that old steamengine in the corner into action again. But for similar reasons as you I have been putting it off.

I sadly have no idea what the first game was, probably something on a c64, with the annoying tapes where you had to wait ages for a game to load.

First game I vividly remember playing was prince of persia on a 386, after that it all becomes a bit of blur, Dune II, master of orion, x-com, x-wing. Btw this was all at friends house, we got an Amiga 500 a bit later. Played the first settlers and lemmings II to death on that thing.

meh, those where the days. :P

Descent and Alone in the Dark were the only games installed on my first computer. I had to turn down the graphics in Descent as my rig could barely run it, I think it was 160hz (with the turbo button on!).

Before that though I used to play Dune2 and some pirates (sid meyer's?) game on my dad's puter, and Parsec on his Texas Instruments which I think was the first game I ever played.

I believe the first game I played on PC was Prince of Persia. It was on an old x286, in black and white...

Oh gee! I really don't remember which one was the first. I do think however it was Bard's Tale III: Thief of Fate.

Funnily enough I do remember some details about the game itself. Like that my wizard died in the fight against the first big baddy before the summoned Brothers Kringle and my rogue killed him. And when he got resurrected he suddenly was an archmage. :D

Never managed to play it to the end though. I got stuck in some maze between universes or such and never found my way out.

On the C64 I guess it was Pharao's Curse.

Civilisation. I saw this game on the shelf and wanted to try it on my parents PC. This is what got me into PC gaming about 18 years ago. :)

First "PC" game was Populous, on the Amiga.  Man, you got'a be lucky to have such a classic game as your very first game.  That's was the first time I ever went to work with no sleep.  You know your in trouble when you hear your alarm go off, and realize you did'nt even notice the sun came up.

Before that, Intellivision; before that Pong; before that was the Wheel, ya, when they invented the wheel I loved that thing. . .

Boy, I was really young when I started playing games on the computer.  I'm not sure what my first ones were.  I remember some of the classic DOS Star Wars games like Dark Forces and X-Wing.  There was also Descent and Doom, and Duke Nukem 3D.  Privateer 2 (awesome frakking DOS game that came on 3 cd's) came later.  But I didn't really get hooked on computer games until WarCraft 2 came out.  Later on I got addicted to StarCraft (don't worry, I'm all fine now, that PoS known as WoW killed my fanboyism of Blizzard) and Total Annihilation.  They simply don't make any addicting games any more it seems like.  Deep, involving gameplay has seemingly been ignored.

I spent a long time with an Apple computer as a kid, so I'm trying to remember what game was the first for our new PC when we finally went that direction. I'm pretty sure it was either Empire Deluxe or Doom...those were the first 2 I had but I cannot remember in what order they were purchased.

My first computer game was SimCity 2000 for the Mac. I played that game probably more than any other, except maybe Civ 2. After purchasing my first PC, the first game I bought was SimCity 3000.
