Stardock acquiring other Developers

Just out of curiosity, has Stardock considered buying other developers?

For example, GSC Gameworld (creators of the stalker games) could REALLY benefit from a great publisher like Stardock. THQ and Deep Silver have only forced them to rush the 2 stalker games and put draconian DRM on Clear Sky.

Are there other companies you have considered? Your thoughts on GSC Gameworld?

As far as I know, Stardock hasn't "bought" any developers ever.  They publish games by/with developers, but they don't actually own any outside developers.

I don't think they actually can buy other developers from a financial standpoint. They've said before that they also can only work with self-funded developers (like IC/GPG) because otherwise they wouldn't be able to float the developer for the entire process.

I'd love to see what Relic would do if it were independent of THQ and published through Stardock, but unfortunately that would mean they would have to more or less buy themselves back from THQ. I can't see THQ allowing them to make enough money to do that, and I can't see Stardock being willing or able to plop down the vast amount of cash THQ would demand for one of their star cash cows. I weep.

In today's gaming industry, it's more about strategic partnerships than control. The competition is as brutal as daily innovations or luring the best minds into a dev team. Even if products are properties, i doubt re-selling or hands juggling can make or brake the quality of distributed titles.

Like everything, you gotta be lucky to stay afloat.

And quite ingenious to create value that fits tight in a clearly defined potential market.

Some are better at targeting than others and they certainly won't give it out so easily.

Ask Valve for their new multi-core addressing engine and they'll probably reply; Do your own and better it fast, cuz we're ahead until proven otherwise.

This so sounds like a tag line for a movie. Or a book.
